Pretty sad view of things. I guess you have selected memory. Good think Microsoft popped in to dump a few hundred mil to save the sinking ship Apple. Your xenophobic view of anything non-Apple is just fodder to those that see Apple enthusiasts as nothing more than ignorant fanboys, and in your case you prove them correct.

I have had every incarnation of the iPhone invented, will for sure have a xTablet, own several Macs, ATV's, etc... I also own Nokia phones because the iPhone completely misses the boat on many things that Nokia phones have as standard feature. The point is, there is no one phone for all mankind. I am also wise enough to know that the tide can turn in an instant and to ignore this proves the axiom of: "it is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it". Android could drop a killer phone as could Nokia, or LG and then we would have a whole new ballgame.

Do you think that maybe, just maybe you earned it? I love my Apple stuff, and I go forth with the Apple banner to all of my friends who use Nokia and other products but as I posted, I am lucid enough to know that there are other products, devices, services, etc... that can easily be the next new thing. Apple is on top, but if memory serves correctly, they did not start out there. Really, do you think your statement made you look anything less than an over the top rabid fanboy?

i'm sorry, your majesty, my comments are not worthy for you to see them, they must be fanboyishly over the top...

please understand that not all of us are gifted with such superior mental powers and memory...and intelligence...

No need to kiss my ring or my ass for that matter. The word you are looking for is common sense. Two words actually.

Let's start again. Carry the Apple banner, I'll be right there with you but when you head into Lemming Land, you go it alone. How's that? We all good now?

yes, we were good right from the start...when you were calling me a xenophobe...by being a xenophobe yourself...

it's called thinking before typing...nobody likes to come out as acting superior to someone else, do they?

Nokia has lost market share, as had already been stated repeatedly, but they are also seeing the writing on the wall, which is that they cannot compete in a market where people are willing to pay an exhorbitant amount for the media appliance that it the iPhone, so rather than compete, they just want to make it go away.

They're going to have to figure out this isn't a DT induced hallucination and that the world doesn't work that way. It will be a hard lesson for them and they will spend millions of dollars on legal fees to lose, and they will lose, but whatever. They're no longer relevant anyway.

Nokia's large portfolio of patents makes them very relevant. Nokia has spent 10s of billions of dollars in R&D on 3G and related technologies.

Apple will owe Nokia royalties... the amount is what is in question.

Ever heard of humor? Nokia translates to "soot" in Finnish. I repeat -- what kind of name is Nokia for a phone? If you want to use a "soot phone" be my guest.

Nokia should go with Android OS and create something like the Booklet 3g. Call it N-Phone and create something like Sense (HTC's UI for android, WinMo) and stop trying to ban iPhone from being imported into the US, cause that is not gonna happen.

    Nokia's strategy:

This would actually make sense if it wasn't for the fact that Nokia has 50% of the global smartphone market compared to Apples less than 10%.

Then what do they have to be afraid of? They're clearly doing every single thing they can do to stifle competition from Apple, so something must be up. The really important facts are not the static share, but the change in share, and for Nokia, that is going nowhere but down.

Last quarter Nokia's average handset selling price dropped to 62€, which doesn't seem too smart to me.

As Nokia operated at a loss, it seems that in order to retain this mystical number which incidentally three years ago was approaching 70%, they are practically giving their phone's away.

Is that the price the operator sold it for, or Nokia?

And I like how you include Nokia's entire share when it suits you

As has been noted over and over again, the loss was made by NSN, their handset divison makes a profit.

Our mobile device average selling price (ASP) in the third quarter 2009 was EUR 62, down from EUR 72 in the third quarter 2008 and at the same level as in the second quarter 2009. The year on year decline was primarily due to a higher proportion of sales of lower priced products as well as general price pressure. Sequentially, our ASP benefited from new product shipments, offset however by general price pressure.

Third quarter 2009 Devices & Services net sales declined 20% to EUR 6.9 billion, compared with EUR 8.6 billion in the third quarter 2008. Devices & Services net sales were down year on year in all geographic areas. At constant currency, Devices & Services net sales would have decreased 20%. The net sales decline resulted primarily from lower volumes, combined with the ASP decline, compared with the third quarter 2008. Of our total Devices & Services net sales, services contributed EUR 148 million in the third quarter 2009, representing 29% year on year growth and a 6% sequential growth. Nokia completed the divestment of its security appliances business in April 2009 and accordingly services net sales for the third and second quarter 2009 as well as for the prior periods are not directly comparable.

Excuse this financial statement coming from Finland, here's hoping it satisfies your fetish for requiring statements from various parts of the world.

62? is what Nokia sells them for, you see I know this concept may be hard for someone of your obtuseness to understand BUT networks BUY handsets off manufacturers then o nsell them to consumers under various terms, including but not limited to being tied to the terms of service of a contract, locked to a network for prepaid use or sold outright without network customisation..

Oh the xenophobe moniker fits, especially when you do not realize how ridiculous your comments sound. If you are happy with being the personifying of the typical Apple fanboy have at it. I tend to let my Macs, iPhone, Apple TV, etc... speak for themselves and convince people. Anyway, whatever.

Considering most Finns think of the town as opposed to your explanation, I would say that your attempt at humor scored a big fat zero, except with you of course.
