The last time a similar AIBB thread was up, Napster was still in action.

I had a blast listening to AI poster-recommended tunes.... LTJ Bukem, Kings of Convenience, Pedro the Lion...

So here we are again. New boards, fresh faces and <a href="http://xlife.org"; target="_blank">OS X gnutella clients that don't suck</a>. So whatcha all groovin to?

Let's try and stay out of the radio top 50. Not that I have anything against "mainstream" music.. but that's not what I'm polling the net's largest collection of misfits for.

I'm honestly a huge Dave Matthews Band fan. Unfortunately, their latest album "Everyday" totally sucks -- thanks to their new producer -- but past albums have been MUCH better. My favorite of them all is "Under The Table And Dreaming."

If you're into any sort of Christian stuff, you can't go wrong with Delirious! or FFH.

Stereolab is good when you can find one of their drony rocking tunes

Jon Spencer is real kick-but sleazy rock blues like taking Elvis mixing it with a jack hammer and a low budget porn movie, and Howlin Wolf rolled in . . . . its been said of him that he is the last of the real blues (except maybe Ass Pocket o Whisky guy) but he doesn't really play "blues" its more just like rootsy, sleazy, post-punk, glammy, memphisy, hard driving, and groovin, rock and roll. Makes contemporary "metal" radio brand rock music (aka creed, korn etc) seem like a buncha suburban boy whiners.

Been digging the most recent Dandy Warhol's record and I never thought I'd like them. I've also been digging the ne New Order record, Get Ready. Everyone I've played it for has totally dug it as well. You might also wanna look for Peaches and Fischerspooner.

New Found Glory is a lot of fun to listen to.

Sum 41 too...but they sound kinda stupid and you can't make out what they're saying sometimes.

Anything U2 is great. With or Without you is one of my favorites...Every Breath You Take by the Police is also fantastic and if you've never heard it you're missing out...seriously.

I like punk, but I don't really like any of the bands you mentioned. I think Peaches is a hell of a lot more punk than any of them. Then again I also think having a mohawk or being in a "punk" band is about the least punk rock thing you could do.

Yeah, but it's not about the punk image, its purely for the music. Also the deffinition of punk varies based on who you talk to.

I´m still stuck in my early 90´s sentimental shoegazing part of my collection and been there the last month. Go find Soulvaki Space Station with the band Slowdive. There is a live version on Sputnix/AudioGalaxy. or else the usual My Bloody Valentine esp. the "Loveless" album.

it's not just the producer. Dave Matthews has been going down hill for several years now. he's a sellout. It's nothing like it was back in 96. And all these dumb potheads keep eating it up thinking its a gift from god.

I love DMB but they haven't done anything new and interesting and worth listening to in 4 years. and that's coming from someone who has seen them 12 times.

What I'm listening to right now:

    The Mavericks

    John Hiatt

    Doyle Bramhall and Smokestack

    Gov't Mule

    Pearl jam

    U2

    Blind Mellon

    Bela Flek and the Flecktones

    Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros

    Lucinda Williams

    Los Lobos

    The Who

    Stevie Ray Vaughan

    Bob Dylan

Derek and the Dominos (and tons of EC)

    Indigenous

    Jonny Lang

    Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band

    Led Zeppelin

    Live

    Neil Young

    natalie merchant (great new album)

    The Blues Brothers

    Steely Dan

    Sheryl Crow

Shannon Curfman (amazing 16 year old female guitarist ("female Lang")

    Santana

    Rusted Root

    Allman Brothers Band

    REM

    Derek Trucks Band

    John Campbell

    Charles Lyonhart

    and countless others

HAHAHAHAHA!!! that was pretty good. I agree...

Anyway, I thought I'd give another nod to radiohead, if you're not already listening to them. Björk's latest few albums are great too. REM's Reveal is the best thing they've done since Automatic. Tori Amos' Strange Little Girls is awesome. Moby's Play is one of the best spontaneous purchases I've made in a long time. Bob Dylan's Love and Theft is excellent. Wyclef Jean's The Carnival kicks some serious booty, as does Lauryn Hill's Miseducation.Ani Difranco's older stuff is some serious hard-rockin' folk music, as is her latest, Revelling and Reckoning. That's all I can think of right now...

    I'm currently rotating:

    - My Chilean folk/protest music playlist (Gondwana, Victor Jara, Inti-Illimani, Silvio Rodriguez, Violeta Parra etc... aaaahhhhhh yeah! (Shakira sucks!))

    - Tenacious D's album

    - Talking Heads - 'Sand in the Vasoline'

    - Wu Tang Clan - 'Enter the Wu (36 Chambers)'

I need an iPod and a new iMac!

    My frequently listened to bands:

    Smashing Pumpkins!

    Radiohead

    Pearl Jam

    Tool

    Rage Against the Machine

and, when I want a change of pace, Ben Harper

Can't explain it, but I've been on a serious Pat Benetar kick lately...

Anything by Live tops my list right now. Also Gravity Kills, Nine Inch Nails, Bush, Stabbing Westward, and the two Black Sabbath albums that Ronnie James Dio did. (Was never an Ozzy fan, and the group stunk after Dio left.)

Firstly, I have to salute the greats :

    REM

    Radiohead

    U2

    Blur

I'm suprised that everyone seems to miss out Up when talking about REM albums. I think that, while it does not have the most showstopping of all their tunes, it is a beautiful album, that I can put on, listen through completely and feel refreshed at the end (well, perhaps not Airporman)

Also, I'm suprised that noone has mentioned Our Lady Peace. Happiness... and Spiritual Machines are excellent, and I thought that they were famous over in Canada and the USA, while nobody has heard of them here in the UK.

Also, a couple of British suggestions :

Muse : An amazing new rock band

Spiritualized : A wierd psychadelic mix of rock and chilled out numbers.

    Hope this helps,

    David

I'd have to agree here. 'Showbiz' and 'Origins of Symmetry' are two fantastic albums.

Muse had a song in an iMac ad once, 'Sunburn'. It was one of the ugly "dog or flower" iMacs/iTunes ads.
