Importance of flash for the iPad
I presume people have discussed this topic ad noseum already.. I don't know.
As far as I can tell, Flash provides for a rich experience on the web for the likes of me.
Curiously when I inadvertently disabled Flash on my web browser I lost some animated ads on some web pages I visited. That was a happy coincidence. It also means I will not see those annoying, undesirable animated ads on the iPad. In fact, I would hope it stays this way

For some people, no Flash is the deal-breaker that makes the iPad an utter failure (though I think some of them are strenuously searching for reasons to not like the iPad). They claim they can't do this or that and that Apple is evil for not including it.
However, the iPhone has never had Flash and people bought it anyway and have lived without Flash. Some, though, then claim that they assumed, for some reason, that Flash would come to the iPhone OS and vent that they are disappointed in Apple for not making it available, but I feel this is ungrounded. Apple is under no obligation to add any features after the point of sale, and yet they do (there have been upgrades to the OS that are free for all iPhone owners and have added many features).
Sometimes, Apple listens to feedback; if these people really want Flash on their machines and future devices, they could do a concerted effort (signings, etc) and ask Apple to provide the feature, but Apple will do as it always has: what it wants to do and thus their efforts may or may not pay off.
I have lived without Flash for years and am perfectly content. Others aren't. If you really want Flash, don't buy the iPad until (though very unlikely) Apple actually adds Flash to the OS. If you don't mind the absence of it, then by all means get an iPad and start enjoying it and being productive. The bashers are out in force, but the device looks pretty promising to me. It's all up to the developers now to see what they can do with Apple's tool.
And again, would be nice to have, but here's the important part; If it didn't suck. Flash sucks on Macs, it sucks so bad. Whenever I load up a single YT video, no matter what quality, the Mac switches to hairdryer mode.
As for porn and all that. Uh, store the pictures and videos on the tablet itself? Heck, that's what I would do. (Okay, that's what I'm going to do.

It causes the same problems on Windows.
#1 Adobe Flash is a crutch that allows really bad coders write web apps that THEY would normally be unable to create*.
* This is often because said web developer doesn't know any other way... However it might also be (properly implemented) due to the fact that many of the web browsers simply refuse to do so (cough MS) and/or because some of the html technologies needed to get the job done are not yet fully approved by the working committees but many would be shocked just how much flash is NEEDLESSLY put to use because developers are L_A_Z_Y

But this makes another good point... If you can TELL a web site is using the crutch known as Crash... Err FLASH then Flash isn't being implemented properly.

Seriously the only thing the Ipad will be good at is reading books/magazines/newspapers + decent laptop fonctionnality. Maybe future version will be better, but not currently.

I like the skipping feature but my CPU is worse than with Flash ATM. A newer webkit will probably have some improvements for it. Are you using Chrome?
A lot of Flash fans will be complaining because they've spent years working up Flash development skills and it will eventually be for nothing. I don't see the end of Flash any time soon though because there are no IDEs for HTML 5 animation content yet and the HTML/Javascript APIs are more limited than Actionscript.
HTML 5 video will be a big step forward for browsers though - once Youtube and Vimeo go HTML 5 and it's working properly, they just need to drop Flash support and mandate that people upgrade to a compatible browser.
C'mon Google, do it. Kill off ie6 once and for all.

The majority of Youtube vids are Flash. iPads don't run Flash, so most of Youtube's content is inaccessible to iPads. That's why iPad, as is, will bomb.

The biggest problem with HTML5 video adoption is the lack of compatible browsers, development tools and optimized video production applications.
Guess what company has a compatible browser, is an expert on building development tools and is currently doing a major rewrite of its video editing suite?

Whether it keeps people from buying the iPad is going to be an interesting question. What is sure though, is that for the first time, more people are going to notice the lack of Flash integration on an iDevice than ever before.
Adobe is the only one who can fix it.

Yes, it may avoid annoying flash ads while browsing. Anyway it is not a plus point of Apple. Apple says "best browsing experience", but we can't browse any flash websites or play any flash games. There are lots of websites which offers free flash games. This might be some issues with Adobe (I don't know). Let's hope that Apple fixes the problem!
This! They need to patch the Ipad solfware to at least allow flash videos or its going to be a very downgraded web browsing experience. Since web broswing is a main feature of the device, it needs to work.

they're not forcing the use of iTunes... They're forcing the adoptation of html5. And it's going to work.
if people want to play games, they should download one of the thousands of games available in the app store. for videos, there's an app for that.

There is html content on the web and it is in beta stage on youtube. You can try it http://www.youtube.com/html5 But only selected browsers can do this. And you cannot view html5 videos on youtube with a Firefox

I'm not so sure about that. 80% of Youtube/online videos is Flash ...and thus presently inaccessible to iPads! I don't see those 80% getting converted to HTML5 anytime soon. Which would leave iPad users without Youtube/online videos. I don't think they'll fall in droves for that proposition.
