Apple Specialists locations will also sell iPad this Saturday

In addition to all Apple retail stores and most Best Buy locations, the iPad will also be available for purchase at select U.S. Apple Specalists, people familiar with the matter have told AppleInsider.

The information that select Apple Specialists locations will offer the iPad on its April 3 release date has remained quiet until now because Apple has allegedly placed resellers under a nondisclosure agreement, preventing them from pre-advertising the availability of the iPad or accessories.

Specific locations where the iPad will be available are unknown, but with Apple sold out of its initial run of preorders and Best Buy rumored to receive just 15 per store, those locations will be another option for those who want to pick up an iPad on Saturday.

The news also contradicts an e-mail sent from Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who responded to an inquiring consumer who asked if the iPad will be sold by the company's authorized resellers. "Initially at Apple Retail and online stores and Best Buy," Jobs replied.

On Monday, Apple announced that the iPad will be sold at all 221 of its U.S. Apple retail locations, as well as "most" Best Buy stores, both starting at 9 a.m. on April 3. About 675 Best Buy locations with designated departments will offer the device on launch day.

The April 3 launch will be for the Wi-Fi-only version of the iPad, which costs $499 for 16GB, $599 for 32GB and $699 for 64GB. The 3G-capable versions will be available in late April and carry a $130 premium.

Throw the resellers a bone will you Apple?

I don't want to have to travel 350 miles, deal with traffic, parking and morons just to play with something I'm not likely going to buy for myself, but need to review because I got customers that are so totally incompetent that it would be right up their alley.

Of course my first interest would be how to install a white/black list hosts file addition on the iPad.

Then it would really be child friendly.

All 221 US stores? Will the Providence store be open to boat traffic?

    I guess that you didn't pre-order then?

If you have customers that might benefit from the iPad, and its your business, then who is incompetent--you should have pre-ordered and if the iPad is used in your work--tax write off.

I know it was a joke, but the Providence Place Mall, where the Apple Store is located, doesn't have any flooding and is open as we speak. Most of the severe flooding was south and west of Providence in the Cranston/Warwick area.

As long as it has an Apple logo on it, the sheep will shuffle off to the slaughter, long-distance or no.

There is an ocean of netbooks available, but Apple wanted to be different for difference's sake and bilk customers for a big iPod Touch.

    I'm a consultant, not a reseller.

Just got to watch out that your not robbed at the PPM on the way out, so hide those Apple bags.

The iPad would fetch huge amounts on eBay, unemployment level is very high in RI, especially Providence, ever since a particular political party padded the welfare rolls with immigrants many years back.

Whatever happened to those students living behind the false wall at the PPM?

You don't need to travel 350 miles to go to an Apple Store. They will ship Saturday delivery to you for free. If you need to review one, I'm sure most resellers are buying them for themselves and will have them for demonstration anyway. By the way, the iPad wasn't designed for incompetent users. It is designed for apps that work better on a touch screen. The API is innovative and will eventually replace Cocoa. If your job revolves around the Mac platform this will be the future.

I'm pretty sure there is no blacklist. You could use a proxy server (you could use a VPN to force its use everywhere) or you can disable Safari.

Same here. I think Apple should put that quote on their Apple Store Employee shirts!

"Great companies in the way they work, start with great leaders." - Steve Ballmer

    Maybe an assortment of quotes:

I have never, honestly, thrown a chair in my life. - Steve Ballmer

My children - in many dimensions they're as poorly behaved as many other children, but at least on this dimension I've got my kids brainwashed: You don't use Google, and you don't use an iPod. - Steve Ballmer

Our company has to be a company that enables its people. - Steve Ballmer

Google's not a real company. It's a house of cards. - Steve Ballmer

We will make our products work out of the box. - Steve Ballmer

We can believe that we know where the world should go. But unless we're in touch with our customers, our model of the world can diverge from reality. There's no substitute for innovation, of course, but innovation is no substitute for being in touch, either. - Steve Ballmer

What we've gone through in the last several years has caused some people to question 'Can we trust Microsoft?' - Steve Ballmer

Um . . . under Steve Ballmer's leadership (and Sinofsky's vision), Windows 7 was released and has proven to be MS' most successful Windows ever. It combines all the usability of OS X with actual CHOICE for the consumer. Far better than Apple's Big Brother lock-in.

I don't know why I'm replying to a troll, but seriously take your M$ opinions to an M$ forum.

You do know what the term "Big Brother" means right? I think most of us on this forum would disagree with your assessment of OS X. It may be the best Windows release ever, but certainly doesn't rival OS X in terms of usability, performance, polish, or power efficiency. As to hardware lock-in, your point would be better if you could actually get superior hardware somewhere else. As long as Apple continues their world-class design, I'm sure there will be no complaints here.

I think Windows 7 is the best version ever, but I sure won't promote it especially in an Apple forum like some fanboys here.

Do you really need to troll every post with the big iPod line? I think it makes a ton of sense to have it in the iPod/iPhone space.

Hello all. Just a couple of points. #1: why are there so many people on these forums that dislike Apple. If you are happy with your PCs...leave us alone and quit posting here. I imagine that the majority of the people who come to this forum do so because they enjoy apple products, have found them extremely innovative and reliable, and a curious about what else is coming up. I am sure that, like me, they have no desire to read your posts about how you dislike Apple...you should probably find a different forum.

#2: Has anyone heard of any delays in the delivery dates of the preorded iPads? Website still says 4/3 for deliver, but UPS site still has product in China. Getting late in the game for the iPad to not have arrived in the continental US yet. Let me know if you have heard anything.

You know I can go to Microsoft' Fan page too and bash everything they do too. Stop being childish! Get a life.
