I'm one of the co-founders of Swype and also an iPhone user. Nevermind from a company perspective, as a user of the iPhone, I long for Swype (knowing what it's capable of). You shouldn't speculate until you try it - you will be surprised and amazed. I know there are the elite who are fast and accurate on the iPhone with two fingers, but the masses (like me) continue to find text input frustrating on the iPhone. The reason Swype lives up to the claim of increasing speed and accuracy is because it allows you to go fast and only "approximately" get to each letter, yet figures out the correct word nearly all the time. You have to move your finger to each letter anyway - Swype just saves you the time it takes to "tap", plus you don't have to be precise.
Apple won't bite on Swype. When a company is publicly talking about talking with Apple, it is clear to conclude that Apple is not receptive of their product or ideas.
That's not a clear conclusion at all.
What is clear is that Swype is not currently in discussions with Apple because they are talking about it. Apple would most assuredly have an NDA if they were in discussions.
Doesn't that replace an existing core technology of iOS? Why would Apple allow something like that?
Apples typing method constitutes the finest UX in the business. Why would they allow their iDevices' typing to get screwed up by some third party? If Apple is consistent, they will reject this app.
It doesn't sound as if Swype wants to create an app. It sounds like they want Apple to license/buy the technology and incorporate it.

Yes, I meant bollocks.
