    A vast conspiracy.

Now some people will claim that lens distortion accounts for the dramatic differences in shadow direction.

    True Dat!

You are the person who thinks the shadows should be going out towards center of picture....

Okay, I think your problem might be you are thinking of a point source of light close behind the objects. Like if there was a center flash 10 feet behind the camera, so the the shadows could travel in different directions dependent on the position to the close source. Then they could go outward.

The thing is... the sun is a bit further away than 10 feet and the shadows therefore are all going to be parallel to one another. Parallel lines project on a horizontal plane going towards the horizon will look as though they converge when the perspective is also close to the horizon. If our perspective was 1000 feet up in the air looking down, those same shadows would look parallel (well, within the angle subtended by the sun.)

    Does this help with anything?

    1. While paralax itself is a very real thing, the *appearance* of paralax in a photograph often depends on the length of the lens used.

    2. Why is anyone discussing this at all? "Steve Jobs went to a restaurant" must be the single least controversial thing that's ever happened in the Apple world.

    Yes, thanks.

I'm far from an expert but I can catch on fairly quickly, I do know enough to know that I can't write about it with any confidence.

Still, some of the posts in this thread...

Don't know what it is about AI forums, but if they handed out $20 bills for no reason at all, someone would argue about it and someone would call them a jackass for handing out the cash.

    Seriously they would.

The only controversial thing is that the Apple haters are unwilling to accept that Jobs might have walked away without screaming and yelling if there were no seats available. Somehow, they'd be much happier if he had thrown a fit.

Finally, a positive message about global warming and the inevitable rise of the seas.

Note that none of the allegedly-altered photos shows Jobs "screaming and yelling".

So you’re saying that you didn’t PS the image, otherwise you would have had him in a TIFF*? LOL
