[quote]Sitting in front of me were a group of 5 or 6 Boston College geeky kids. one of em was just annoyng as hell and screamed throughout the whole game. Pretty funny because he was so nerdy looking but annoying. Got a few things thrown at em

Yeah, I was sitting with a lot of Yankees fans when I went to the game. Loud and annoying as hell. The worst was the giant (as in size) Yankees fan who sat next to my little cousin. Took up not only his own seat, but half of the ones next to him as well. He got piss drunk and acted like a giant loser throughout the game.

Don't mind the BC kids. 90% are preppy rich kids. Mommy and Daddy probably paid for them to go to the game.

As for Rickey Henderson, he's fine. No broken bones, he just wanted attention. That's Rickey for you though. He'll be with the team against the Tigers.

one thing is true, with the exception of Sunday (for the Yanks) and Saturday (for the Red Sox) both teams are playing very good baseball.

It's gonna be an exciting race I think.

It would be even better without the damn wild card. I'm old enough to remember '78. That didn't turn out so good for the Sox but there's just nothing like it when two teams play at that level (100+ wins) and one of them is going to come up empty handed. A seven game playoff doesn't come close to the pressure cooker environment that existed when there were pennant races like that. They didn't happen all that often but when they did every game was crucial.

Well, I'm not sure what to think of this. You have to have the wild card as long as you have interleague play. It's not right for teams to not play more games in their division to determine their own fate.

Not only do the teams have to go play in the other league, but then they have to make adjustments to play there. For example, in an AL park, the NL team has to come up with another good hitter to bat DH, and when in the NL park, the AL team loses their DH and the pitchers have to hit (basically automatic out).

Plus, interleague play used to be: AL East plays NL East. AL Central plays NL Central, etc.

Now, it's Boston plays what appears to be NL West, but doesn't play the Giants and does play the Braves. (WTF?) That means in June, the Red Sox play games on the west coast which is an extra road trip. I personally hate those because that means games aren't on until 10:05. If I have to be at work early and get up at my normal time (in the middle of the night), I can't watch the game (unless I catch the end of it at work. )

Plus, the owners and players make a lot more money off of the playoff games, so having 7 series instead of 3 makes them better off. Plus, if you only had 4 divisions, there are so many teams now that 3/4 of the teams in baseball would be out of the running within the first week. Actually, that's nearly the way it is now, but I'd say maybe half would still have a chance at the wild card today.

I don't like interleague play either.

Baseball is losing fans in part because of all the gimmicks. If there were real pennant races you'd have basically the same teams in contention. They'd just be after fewer post season slots. In the AL you'd have Seattle and Anaheim battling it out in the West with Minnesota right behind and Boston and NY in the East. What's a 162 game season for if you're not going to have real pennant races? With the way it is now you have teams knowing that if they can just clear a lower threshold, they'll still make it into the playoffs.
