I already own a registered version Transmit v3.7 from Panic and I saw the new version 4 on the Apps Store. There is a 45% discount available for those upgrading from v3+ on Panic's web site.
Ever the curious one, I clicked buy version 4 from the Apps store just to see how it handled the discount for version 3 owners.
I clicked buy to get to the next screen ... I never saw any mention of upgrading. In the blink of an eye I now own version 4. I saw no mention of cost, discount whatever. I have no idea what I was charged. No e-mail receipt yet. I will be very interested to see if I was automatically granted the discount I would have received via Panic's own download site. Given it never asked for the serial I have for v3 I am dubious. If I am I will be very impressed.
If there are complaints of that nature, they would be terrificly wrong.
That would be like calling Android a walled garden because Amazon has a curated store.
iOS isn't a walled garden either (although the iOS application system is) because the internet (represented by the standard technologies its based on) is completely unfettered.
John B. is referring the fact everything Apple does is accused of being behind a 'Walled Garden' by Apple haters. It's BS & FUD from Trolls jealous that Apple gets it right for the best, safest and nicest user experience.
Yep, and it says I purchased it, that's it. No break out of details so far. So no way of knowing if discount was applied. My guess is it wasn't since there was no interim request for an existing serial number. I'm not losing sleep over $20 and I am sure Panic will make it right. It was a deliberate test on my part to see if Apps store handles such matters. A more expensive product might hurt in this scenario. Early days I guess.
I will know when the e-mail receipt finally arrives. If Apple TV is anything to go by that will be in a few days.
Where can we find a complete list of changes in 10.6.6, appart the App Store application ?
I tried the App Store app, and really it's lame in its current state ! MacUpdate and VersionTracker are MUCH better, when you want to browse apps. I don't understand all the buzz about the App Store. The only advantages I see are some reduced prices and the ability to get an app more directly.
Which apps have you downloaded through the Ubuntu Software Center, and are you using LTS or 10.10?
Only free apps to be fair, but it is Linux. Kdenlive, Rosegarden, Inkscape, JACK, Cube2 (Sauerbraten), to name a few. I use primarily LTS, with 10.10 Studio on my Music Creation computer.
I am curious, if Apple will allow third party companies add their own "Repositories" for paid apps in the Apple Mac Store? I highly doubt it because of the all the financial hurdles it would require, but it would be interesting.
I'd be fine with a TM restore.....but I'll be going back in history. I want to keep my current apps, my currents docs etc... I suppose I could move them to my raid array, but I wonder if that will impact my registrations/activations on them when I move back to the fresh OS....

Check your account in the iTunes Store. Your Mac App Store purchases will be listed there.
I don't see a way to access my store account via the Mac App Store. No doubt it will come.
Well, I hope Apple didn't made a whole update of their OS just to give us the App Store crap. What are the other changes in Snow Leopard ? This page is blank (from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1343) :

I didn't have the 10.6.6 beta but had the 10.6.5 beta a while back, but installed the 10.6.5 final over it. I still had problems trying to get 10.6.6 installed using the regular update. I downloaded the 10.6.6 combo update from: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349
and it is now installing. Try that. It's a 1GB file though...
Got Sketchbook Pro 2011 for a cheap price from the App Store...
I have never downloaded desktop software before in which it only took a few seconds. No opening DVD boxes, popping the disc, going through several installation steps, typing in serial numbers, etc.
Interesting. The two apps that I just downloaded from the Mac App store are present under iTunes purchase history. Maybe it's because both were free.
The bill showed up seconds later. But as I said I was charged full price and never asked if I was upgrading. This needs to be fixed or Apps store needs to warn existing owners they should go to the seller's web site not the Apps store if upgrading. As I said, this was a low cost test on my part and I almost expected this but a sophisticated system like this could easily have an interim step to ask if upgrading etc. you'd think.

We'll be reminiscing in years to come about the smell of the new box and packaging back in the old days

I'm thinking you just have TM right?

Yeah, and who wants that?

Good idea ... It get's more interesting ... no sign of the Apps Store purchase I just made in my iTune account.
I am glad I just looked though I have been billed for some Verizon app I didn't buy!
Spoke too soon, it just popped in ... full price grrrr.

Browsing apps in the App Store is a pain in the butt. There doesn't seem to have a Math/Scientific section ! Where are the scientific apps ?

I've downloaded the app store. I don't see a way to have the program download all the apps that I already own. Is there a simple way to do this?
Just curious, why would you want to download what you already have?

Something like 64 Bit Calculator? Type math in search box. The selection is small for the moment.
Give it a chance. Developers have only had a few months and there are thousands working on theirs at the moment.
