People who say (in seriousness) that football is weak because of the pads have never played football.

Watch for Iowa State to give a rebuildng FSU a scare in the kickoff classic, with Seneca Wallace catching some hype at QB. God, if they won the cool people in this state would tear it apart!

After last year, I'm through predicting the NFL. Parity at it's worst!

In the national college picture, I think it'll be pretty wide open, too. Being a Big XII guy I'd like to see Texas cash in on their big recuiting classes.

By the way, I'm sort of a closet Ohio U fan. They gave ISU a couple tough games the last two years, and I like teams that run the option (except Nebraska )

    Go Bobcats!

Seneca Wallace is great, but the smart money is never against FSU. That program is just insane with how quickly it reloads the talent. You're doing pretty damned good as a program when 8-4 is a bad season.

I agree, soccer is much much much better. Football sucks.

    Go Brownies!

Cincinnati vs. Ohio State More than likely the Buckeyes maul the Bearcats, but I would be rollin if they pulled off an upset.

Hopefully my high school team gets a state championship soon. We've always been very good. Junior year #3 in the state and 10-0 and got upset in the first round by a very good squad. Every single year we have to play national powerhouse St. Ignatius in the first round of the playoffs. How's that for chances?

Good point, Groverat. So many times I've thought the Seminoles had slid back to the pack, only to have them come back with a top-five finish.

I think it will mean a lot to the ISU program if they can keep it close throughout on such a big stage. >fingers crossed<

This thread got me going around to some of the sports sites-Washington State is one of the favorites in the Pac 10?!

They're another of the teams I dig on the side, mainly for their wide open offense and cool uni's, but I didn't think they'd be that good this year!

jeffyboy... i didn't know there was such a thing as a closet bobcat fan! there are some people in ohio who have never even heard of ohio university.

tigerwoods99... i must say it was weird to see st. ignatius while reading through this thread. i know what you mean though, playing them first round would suck. i went to centerville high school. not always a football powerhouse but every now and then we have a good team.

florida state's got another year before they're back in the hunt. they will have their hands full. still a relatively young team, but you guys are right, they just keep reloading and could still be a threat.

    groverat,

i think you will find it very hard to run on us. horns will have to win this in the air. your receivers are some barney badasses, ill give you that, but you will be going up against, arguably, one of the best secondaries in the country. will see if sims has grown up any after loosing the job, rightfully, to applewhite, who should of had it all last year. mack fvcked up big time there in my book. how does your defense look to be this year? haven't really heard much. it should be a good one. it will be a great game. are you going? i'll be there.

People have this idea that the pads are pillows or something. The pads actually add 40 or so pounds to each player and are needed because the other players are wearing pads. If someone with pads smashed someone without, the person without would be crushed. If two people without pads smashed each other, they would both be equally disgruntled...just as if two people with pads squabble...so its essentially the same as wearing no pads at all. Did that make sense?

small world? give me a break. the whole small world idea is a bunch of crap. each of us face hundreds of situations, meetings/greetings every day, and that fact that one out of a thousand people you come in contact with shares some similarity with you is not particularly startling. sorry to be such a grouch.

Never count Free Shoes University out.

I hate them, but they win and they win big.

Oh, I know it's going to be tough, but it's more about ball control than getting big yards on the ground. I don't mind "3 yards in a cloud of dust" if we can get those 3 yards and keep the clock running while we have the ball.

We've got to get just enough running in there to keep your defense somewhat honest. But Stoops will throw 84 guys in the box before he lets a team beat him with a stellar running game. Him and Mike will jump in there and eat the RB's feet before that happens, I have no illusions that Benson will be breaking off big runs. But he should get 3-5 a pop, and that's all we need. If he walks out of there with 30 carries for ~100 yards I think we win the ballgame.

[quote]your receivers are some barney badasses, ill give you that, but you will be going up against, arguably, one of the best secondaries in the country.

Strait and Woolfolk are studs, absolutely, but I'll take Roy Williams up against one of them 9 times out of 10.

[quote]how does your defense look to be this year? haven't really heard much.

Our defense looks to be a bit better because we'll have some better play at linebacker. Derrick Johnson will be starting on the weakside (we run a 4-3) and he is absolute dynamite (not unlike your Texan-boy Harris, I'm still pissed you guys beat UT for him). Our defensive secondary looks more solid than last year (losing Jammer sucks but we've got potential AA candidates at both our starting CB slots with decent depth).

The only big question in my mind on defense is the pass rush. Hopefully starting DJ on the weakside will open that up more, but we can't turn Redding (DE) loose because in our schemes the DE has coverage responsibilities. We'll see, I don't expect a great pass rush, but against OU's offensive line you don't need a great one.

[quote]are you going? i'll be there.

I don't know yet, we'll see if I can get some tickets from the raffle we hold every year. Last year I got them but gave them away, I'd still love to go.

Watching soccer is more boring than watching baseball but not as boring as watching golf.

NFL players are sissies only when compared to <a href="http://afl.com.au/"; target="_blank">Australian football.
