Which puts me in a bind cause I planned on waiting til this summer to upgrade to the next generatioin iPhone and skipping iPhone4. I chose to do this because unlike the majority of people here saying that this new iPhone will be the same as iPhone4 with minor changes, I was told to not get the iPhone 4 since my upgrade wasn't eligible last summer because iPhone4 was not much different than the 3GS other than the retina display (which I was told you couldn't see a difference) and front camera therefore jump at the next version. And now you all saying to wait til the following version after the next one.

Personally, i went into an AT&T store and put the 3GS and 4 side by side nd I did see a big difference with the retina. i think I was mislead. So should I still get the new iPhone this summer and or again keep my 3GS and wait for the following release or use my upgrade in 2 days and get the iPhone4?

You can wait or you can buy it now and sell it when it comes out and buy the new one

So what you are saying here, is that if Apple where to make 2 different phones on the same carrier that each phone would equal the sales of the single iPhone on that carrier today and not 50%? With so many choices to an Android consumer, how could any single phone equal that of a one phone fits all choice from Apple? Quit thinking like an iBoy and just listen to what you just said! You like Apple, you have one choice. You like Android, you have dozens of choices. Do the math!!

Actually by creating the world's first 3D phone, LG did one hell of a job differentiating themselves in the Android market. Obviously you only read what is going on in Apple world that you haven't a clue.

Moto, Samsung, LG and HTC will not be in a position to challenge iPhone one-on-one in customer patronage because they just don't have the X factor. Whether you like it or not brand name recognition still rules the day.

You sound exactly like an iFriend I have. Back in 2009 when I told him that Android was positioning itself to overtake iOS in sales, he had that same snob-toned attitude. In fact, he'd shovel article after article of how iOS was going to slam Android. Just before the iPhone 4 launch and when Android sales really started to bust loose, he said when the iPhone 4 came out that Apple's sales figures were going to jump and the gains Android made would be wiped. Well we all know how that ended and it *wasn't* in Apple's favor.

Bottom line is that while the iPhone has name, brand recognition and great sales, it isn't evolving at the speed of Android devices. Besides retina, the iPhone 4 display and capabilities aren't a lot different from a 3G. Sure, the phones are getting better (except for the extra dropped call per 100 on the iPhone 4), but nothing that has changed the game. NFC is already out on an Android device with payments coming. The iPhone 5 (still vaporware) is rumored to have NFC as its big game changer (yeah, oh really?) and will already be behind the curve.

You really need to get out more. If you think Apple isn't concerned about it's competition (Android), then I suggest more reading before posting.

Actually the real test will be if the iPhone 5 can withstand the new Android devices being released *before* the June timeframe. There's some "magical" Android devices coming with everything from 3D no-glasses-display with 3D recording and photos to dual core power houses with unique features such as being dockable in a laptop shell. Even AT&T who has historically barely given an Android device shelf space is going to be bringing on *12* Android devices in 2011 (competition not seen by the AT&T iPhone at AT&T). Its not if Android will be stunted by the iPhone 5, it is if the iPhone 5 (which should barely be an upgrade if it plays to historical stats) can withstand all of the Android devices which will feature things (like today) that the iPhone won't have. As Android devices appear with more unique features to stand them out from other Android devices, poor Apple will be left scrambling to keep up as the "magic" is being sucked out from under them. They had a great no-competition run that allowed them to grow for years at a rapid rate. Those days of running free are going...

The iphone 4 is the #1 selling handset in the world. The iPhone 5 will be the #1 selling handset in the world.

Feature lists will never beat function, not today, not tomorrow, not next year.

I find it funny that everytime I look up apple blogs I find some android losers on it. Correct me if I'm wrong why come to a site or a topic specified for apple products just so you can fill your fragmented post here. Seems like someone wants an iPhone and is seriously in denial about the matter at hand. To all the android losers that always lurk into apple topics get a life I mean seriously it's just a device if you don't like it dont buy it, stop with the I hate ifanboy crap sounds like youre just miserable if you ask me.

What like all the Android phones with higher resolution screens and 1 GHz processors that went up against the 3GS prior to the release of the 4?

This is a Apple website not a iPhone one. Me and many of my friends own Droids but also own Macs, iPods, and iPads.

THe problem with your entire line of thinking is that its all about hardware. I rarely ever hear anyone say its all about the hardware. Its the software that makes iOS king. The hardware helps, but no Android phone has matched iOS in terms of software. Its why you keep reading stuff like "I loved this Android phone - its close to iPhone, but not quite there".

Apple doesn't have to have all the whizbangs and whoozits. The ones they do have are going to be supported by iOS in an awesome way. All those other features like docking to a laptop or 3D no glasses display will be all one-offs that hardly any software will be written for. Good for a gee-wiz show-off and never used again.
