Even the reports from Reuters and CNN or any "serious" news agency you want to name are more on the level of tabloid news than informative factual journalism. The explosions you've heard about for instance were a result of purposeful action on the part of those cooling down the reactor, not "accidents" and most of the deadly radiation you keep hearing about has a half life of about 8 days.

I'm not saying it isn't serious stuff, but unless you live right next door to the reactor in question this is nothing even close to a Chernobyl type deal or even that serious. Seriously. Smoking cigarettes puts you in far greater danger of imminent death or cancer than living right up the street from this reactor.

People are focussing on the nuclear reactor because it frightens them when they should be focussing on the tsunami damage which is appalling and caused 10's of thousands of deaths and more problems besides.

I can't say I'm surprised to see all the nuke apologists coming out of the woodwork. Actually I'm surprised there aren't even more. Don't worry guys -- all you have to do is tell people that stricter safety standards for nukes will result in higher electricity bills, and maybe yell "socialist" a few times, and peolpe will accept all the high level radioactive bs you can dish out.

Yup, everything is just fine. Nothing to see here. Go about your business.

Nuclear fission as a power source has no real future beyond those trying to portray it as "renewable". We just never got it working good enough to be as safe, clean, effective, small, manageable, and easily distributable as other power sources.

Solar is so close to taking off, maybe it needs an Apple of solar energy to do it. BTW did you ever notice that usually the poor countries are the ones that have a lot of sunlight?

You might not like this but here goes. Historically in the Northern hemisphere, in order to survive the winter you had to be resourceful, which led to the industrial revolution and to financial increase. In the equatorial regions, life is easy, just pick a mango from a tree and relax, hence no real ambition or financial success required to survive.

Solely as a business discussion and not in terms of human tragedy but it sure seems like Apple planned ahead and plotted out a scenario where if there were a disruption, they had plenty on hand stockpiled soemwhere.

As a company who plans years ahead, perhaps they have a 6-month supply of components - clearly the 3-5 parts that supposedly Apple could not get from Japan are in plentiful supply for Apple to keep cranking and they have uttered no words to a short supply unlike dozens of other companies.

Perhaps Apple is smarter than a bunch of WS analysts - you think?

And unlike the Android-Rim tablet makers who clearly realize they will sell a few thousand units a month, they can't plan that far ahead or book that many supplies but Apple who as to make 5-8 million ipads a month clearly realized what if scenarios and planned ahead. So while $300 netbook makers are idlying plants, Apple has thousands of people lined up eveyday to buy ipads which they are shipping and selling.

(unlike the idiots running the auto industry where the only black paint they need is made in ONE plant).

GUNS, GERM & STEEL is out on DVD now - I know it was a long book and you skimmed 4 paragraphs but there's about another 500 ideas from the book.

What supply are we talking about here? Apple is having a very difficult time getting units to the store as I see it, normally by now you could expect to more unit availability and there is just none. Best Buy stores average 800 per-orders and just wont take anymore. At this rate I guess I will have to wait for IPAD3...
