I think you may have done the best possible job at offending fellowship. It's not too ugly. There are a lot that are worse, due to absolutely enormous bases, etc.
Hm... think about if everyone really practiced this. It would cause an economic meltdown... all those stores go into debt to stock merchandise and hire employees for the biggest shopping day of the year, then no customers show up? A part of me really likes the idea.
