This is truly sad, considering all the wild life that will be affected. In this part of the Iberian penninsuala the fishermen will be especially affected. If the whole tanker is lost, it's said that this may be TWICE as big as Valdez. Alas, it's a price we pay to fuel our vehicles.

    True

And in that zone the water moves fast = i guess due to the gulf thing the oil will go towards france, uk and north as well.

But fishing was one of the main ways of living in that zone.

You know, things like this are completely unnecessary, seeing as Kosmo Kramer already came up with a frickin' solution!

Do these people not watch Seinfeld!?

Damn if it would work either.

mebbe not exactly like Krammer pictured, but it could be done using concentric tanks, like the double-hull idea.

It so sad that we waste oil when prices are as high as they are. Fish and seaweed can replenish, but my gas bill needs paying now.

I sincerely hope you are being sarcastic, because in fact marine life will be affected for a far longer period of time than you. Come spring, your need for a fossil fuel to heat your home will be significantly reduced, while the seabeds in this region will still be polluted beyond the ability to sustain life.

But hey, outa sight, outa mind, eh?

This is just evolution at work. The strong oil resistant species will survive and the weaker ones will perish. That is how nature intended it to be. Adapt to humanity.

I wonder how well you'd thrive stuck up to the top of your head in a barrel of raw, unprocessed oil.

Rather poorly I suspect. Thankfully, my species has already devised ways to keep me from having to swim around in the ocean with all that bubbly crude. We humans walk on land you see. I suppose that perhaps I could be walking around one day, and happen to fall into a barrel of oil. But my human brain, located in my kopf, tells me that that probability is rather low. So for now it is not an issue for me, only for the fishies in the sea. Besides, there arent many little fishies left there anyway. You Europeans already overfished those waters.

True, baby, I'm setting out in my oil-tanker sized fishing boat as we speak, for another round of overfishing.

What is that all about? I hate fish.
  • Reply 11 of 45
That's fine and dandy that you are not heading out to overfish. But just because you as one person are not doing that doesn't change the fact that other Europeans are and it is a problem, for both the fishies and the Europeans who do eat them.

Would you say that Americans driving inefficient vehicles like Expeditions which contribute tons and tons of additional pollutants relative to more fuel efficient cars is a problem? Or has that problem been negated by the fact that a single American such as myself walked to work today and that I drive a little Honda sedan when I do drive?

So we are talking generalization here.

The only problem I might see that causes overfishing in Europe is the geographical structure: it is smaller than North-America, but it has more than twice its population (and less coastline?).

There is the problem in a nutshell.

So if we would all change our ways? Fine by me, I'll eat less fish (or less popular kinds).

Hopefully some Americans will put aside their SUV (which are plaguing these parts just as well BTW).

Don't, however, turn this around: you started generalising, I didn't even speak of SUVs.

Now you are generalizing. In posts in this thread I generally generalized, but in general I don't generalize. I'd appreciate if your generalizations about my generalizations were generally limited to the general thread in which I generalized rather than a more generic generalized generilization about my generizing. Gracias.

Ignore my spelling. The fumes from the oil must be going to my head.

The ship shrink today, and his 60 000 tons of oil. According to some expert nothing will happen, according to others, the tanks will explode : they cannot resist to the pressure of 12 000 feets : the oil will come back to the surface very slowly. And it will be not good for fish.

And speaking of fish i am very disapointing : our AI fish the Catfish, trained by Groverat is lost in the Ocean not very far from this acccident. We have not news from him. So i ask you here people : if you have any news, sent us a message.

The catfish is the best agent of AI : we need him !

Maybe it's just the sickness coming over me, but I found this to be wonderfully amusing.

And I'll take that as a compliment, Kopf.

As indeed you should. I do hope you realise that the nonsense tone of COD's answer to my knowledgeable post was identical to mine in our last private conversation. I still read that sometimes and laugh.

That's because groverat is my bitch. He does exactly what I tell him to do. Now, groverat, I order you to quote Der Kopf's messages and insult them for their mediocrity and vacuous nature. Chortle at his meager intellect. In particular, you can mock his description of his post(s) as knowledgeable. Then, after that, lock his threads for their continuous violations of the posting guidelines. Make sure to be condescending to him when you do this. You may proceed with all due speed.
