First of all, I can't believe I'm participating in a Star Trek debate.

Secondly, I liked Voyager. Of course, I watched taped videos sent from the States, meaning it was the only American tv I was watching at the time.

Third, I liked the stories, even before 7 of 9. The characters (with exceptions, of course) seemed more like goofy 21st century humans than in the other episodes. They're closer to people I went to college with.

I watched one episode of Enterprise. I like the subtle humor in it. Too bad I don't get video tapes from the States any more.

That cinches it, Matsu. You are a total raving idiot. I will never listen to another thing you ever say on these boards on any topic.

I am willing to give anyone a chance, but holy crap, that was utterly the most ignorant, assinine, insensitive post EVER (well, okay, i don't frequent many of the political-based threads, where i am sure it's worse...often). I mean, what color is the sky up your own ass?!?

Plus, since you live in Toronto, if i ever meet you in person, i will personally do everyone a favor and kick ya where the good lord split ya.

A.) I liked the different races, it's the other side of the universe... c'mon...

B.) The question of life, and what is life, as well as examination of the borg hive structure have been major parts of both The Next Generation, and Voyager... There are many tie-ins and similarities to the events which basticly are happening at similar times (e.g. Data, Q, the Borg)

I think TNG, Voyager, and Enterprise are all pretty much on the same page, and thus if you like one, you'll probably find the others growing on you...

Now, I've never liked Deep Space Nine...

Actually, a lot of teachers were kinda keen on me for some unknown reason. I'd say about 50% really loved me and let me get away with anything, while the other 50% hated me and wished I'd give them an excuse to nail me. The trick was, of course, to never supply this reason. No swearing, ciggs or other such silliness, nothing but the most finely framed of insults or inuendo, excrutiating politeness... being a bastard is a practiced art, you know.

As for my mother, yes, I think a fair portion of drugs and rock'n'roll were involved in my conception.

dammit, matsu, i still think you're a prick... but you have a point.

so matsu will, from here on out, be known as "matsu - the prick with a point."

anyway, i think i read this in entertainment weekly a LONG time ago (gimme a break, i was waiting for a haircut, and left my usual mac and tech mags at home...) and read where the philosophy behind the various next-generation captains was that there was one major force driving all of their decisions. with picard, it was intellect, cisco was diplomacy/strategy, and janeway always lead with her heart... which was SUPPOSED to get her in a lot of trouble. archer, by contrast, always leads with his balls... to essentially the same outcomes (crap, maybe i shouldn't have shot that diplomat dead, but i think he was gonna eat me!). they all strayed once in a while, but there was a point to their development.

maybe i didn't like neelix becausei was getting tired of all these old benson rejects ending up on star trek series' (rene auberjoinis (?) as odo comes to mind). wow, i get the feeling some folks don't know what i am talking about. how depressing...

Voyager sucks because it's intensely "touchy-feely." So many of the episodes deal with uninteresting crew dynamics. In TNG, the episodes tended to involve semi-creative sci-fi plots, not soap-opera-like love cicles and crap like that which is in Voyager.

In TOS, it was about cheap-production sci-fi and Captain Kirk fooling beautiful aliens into bed.

Hence the popularity of TNG: It's a true sci fi show with a decent budget and a generally good cast.

anyone see Taken on the scifi channel the past two weeks?

back on subject, the main attraction for me was Seven of Nine. Drooooool smili

I also liked the plots they came up with and the departure from the regular bad guys. throwing the ship into a different galaxy or quadrant or sector opened up new characters and aliens.

Yes I saw Taken. For the first time I really liked a Miniseries. It was generally well done with interesting characters. I thought they blinked at the end though. It's hard to write a good ending for that kind of subject matter. With a little imagination they could have done it though.

    Matsu,

I don't know about here but I do know a lot of women that like Star Trek.

Every guy I know (including myself) has too bribe his woman to a Star-Trek film with promises that he'll watch something exceedingly fluffy like "Maid in Manhattan" and stay awake durin he film, and not provide a running critique of al the inadequacies (OK, mebbe just me on the last bit)

I saw the Taken miniseries also. While it was well done (considering the played out premise) it could have been shorter. Infact they had enough material to do at least a full season of 1 hour episodes. I wonder if they were just feeling the waters.

They did leave a thread in for a sequel at the end though.

So most likely, we will see a sequel run of Taken either as a series or another mini series.

yeah i noticed that too. Now the narrative was done by the girl Ally, but was it her journal writings or a post taken narrative? I'm sure it was her journal, but still it leaves plenty of material for a series, no?

I just watched the final episode of Voyager (got it out on tape). Boy that was bad.

The Borg can magically appear with many ships anywhere in the galaxy. Then why don't they kick every other species arse?

If Captain Janeway in the present dies, everything reverts back to how it was as she has no future in the "back to the alpha quadrant" timeline. But wouldn't that happen anyway, because she would have no reason to go back? If temporal paradoxes are to hard to deal with, then don't write them into the script!

Truely cringeworthy rants by just about every cast member.

I mostly liked Voyager, though I can see some of the points people are making, I never watched it much. Never watched much of DS9 either. I've only seen a couple episodes of Enterprise, and have no real desire to watch many more, though I am sure eventually I will give it a chance. I must admit, the opening title sequence was a major turn off for me; it totally tosses the standard formula of 4 other shows that have come before. Now TNG, there's a damn good show. Patrick Stewart is a very good actor, and the show is definitely my favorite of the franchise. Not to mention the easiest to find in syndication (on usually upwards of 15 or 20 times a week on TNN). Also, while some critics have knocked Nemesis, I enjoyed it a lot, if only (and it wasn't only) because it was a little like spending time with old friends. That is, as a long time fan, I got all of the in jokes and allusions in the movie, and you kind of feel like you know the characters very well, and with that whole "A generations final journey" thing, you wonder if this is really going to be their last go 'round the block (somehow I doubt it), and it's kind of sad, and now I'm rambling. Anyway, can you tell I've been a trekkie most of my life, oh well. Shutting up now.
