What seperate you from the stereotype?

Us who like to go head on into the political, religious and moral discussions here in AO are quickly labelled as a religious rightwinger nut, conservative racist, liberal eurocommie etc.

So lets paint a more nuanced picture of yourself. Please name one or more issues where your standpoint don´t match what you think is the general view of yourself.

Since I´m in the liberal eurocommie category two point on the top of my head:

-I am against affirmative action (which makes me a racist in some eyes here). I really don´t believe its the way to achieve better conditions for the individuals who are in a less advantaged position overall. You need to give the vulnerable kids a better start in the elementary school, not try to patch up the differences made in the childhood when people are older. Instead of removing the cause of indifferent life chances it adds another cause for injustice. Those in favor of AA often say that that yeah, but AA is what we have now so we have to cling to it because we will never get the better solution. I say they have made AA the object of the fight of justice and that is blinding them for not seeing that to do something real you need move your focus away from AA.

Your turn.

    Eeewwww....paradoxical behavior. Yummy....

Well I am registered Republican and I am Christian. I am strictly pro-life, anti-affirmative action, against gay marriage (despite having a gay aunt and uncle), and pretty much against every form of federal assistance that doesn't involve work of some sort. (which equals religious right wacko around here) I am also a landlord that owns three rental buildings.

However I also have a degree in music education. I am a 4th grade teacher, one of the union reps on our campus (yes I am a Republican Union Chairperson). I am a fair trader instead of a free trader. While I am Christian, I am not overly religious and only attend church when they have a good pastor or preacher that makes the Bible and issues surrounding it contemporary. Likewise I like to discuss issues relevent to the nature of God that stray out of bounds for most church discussions. (predestination vs. free will for example)

I really can't think of anything that is different from the liberal stereotype for me. But I like to think of myself as consistent, rather than stereotypical.

One of my friends boyfriend told her that he wanted her to be the father of his children. I´m not sure that that is possible but if it is it would involve a worringly amount of surgery.

I am a Texan, but don't fit the stereotype in the following ways:

    - I own no horses.

    - I do not wear a cowboy hat.

    - I have never "rustled" cattle.

    - I have never driven cattle hundreds of miles to market on horseback.

    - I do not own a six-shooter or the accompanying belt/holster.

    - My spurs do not jingle-jangle-jingle. I do not even have spurs or the boots to put them on.

    - My jeans are not nut-cutting tight.

    - All the buckles on my belts are of reasonable size.

    - I am terrible with rope.

The six shooter is an antiquated stereotype which has fallen out of favor even with those of us who enjoy the sport of stereotyping Texans. The modern Texan carries a Glock .22 if he be a fifth ward Texan or a Smith & Wesson auto if he be a cattle rustling Texan.

Speaking of guns: Have anyone seen the trailer for "Bowling for Columbine"? Greatest film clip ever is when he is handed a rifle/shotgun/whatever it is called in a bank for opening up an account and he ask "Aren´t you a bit worried about handling out guns in the middle of a bank?" <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

What's even funnier is when you find out that Moore staged that and that the bank didn't just hand out guns that way.

Oh this again. Anders must have missed the chock-full of stereotypes Fireside Chat boat.

Against the grain? I clearly don't sympathize with those too eager to please senators who jumped all over the issue of the pledge of allegiance. Even Tom Daschle called it a "ridiculous" decision. No Tom.

Don't know what stereotype I'd be...

But I'm sure irregardless I'd find some way of disproving it. (after all... who LIKES to be labeled?)

Looks like it's "spill your guts" time for me....I'm a white insurance dork from (and in) Nebraska. My wife is from Jamaica... ....Yes, she is black (and beautiful!)....and she is a high school biology teacher. And we are both conservative Republicans....and Christians....So maybe I'm not that contradictory, but I guess she certainly is. I am not very familiar with many other black educators who are very conservative like she is.... Can't think of any of our beliefs right offhand which would "go against" our largely conservative beliefs....Guess we're just a boring, brainwashed couple....

Yeah, I'm a pretty stereotypical Libertarian, except that I'm an engineer.

And I'd like to buy a handgun. Glock .22 won't cut it though. Maybe a .357 or a 9mm compact.
