It's amazing how quickly this thread degenerated into what America does wrong!

Let's not and say we did.

Are you actually saying that people who eat a straight and steady diet of fast food for decades and - gasp! - get fat are able to sue McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc.?

    Really?

That is so wrong, on every level.

Start a thread then, and watch most people agree with me.

Uh oh...this is AppleInsider, after all. I might not be so "in the clear" if I was at any other site...

I tend to agree with pscates. If the state mothers you to that degree and treats you like a child, isn't there a danger people will act, or even become, like children.

Where does it stop? Should MacDonalds warn people that drinking a milkshake might make them urinate?

Petty idiotic laws stifling personal liberties exist in all enlightened countries, they are part of the minor annoyances one experiences living in a modern, prosperous, developed, and relatively free environment (yes that does include France).

Companies providing goods and services are well known to use every bit of law available to actively discourage negative comments about said goods or services (like ?vin de merde?), even more so if these comments may have some truth in them.

Most people living in the world today wish this kind of annoyance were their main cause of worry.

If one wants to seek out what France, or Norway, or Switzerland, or Ireland, or Belgium, or Canada, or others, do wrong, one could find much more significant issues than a stupid provincial lawsuit; that is, if one wished to indulge in such vindictive endeavour, which I do not.

Just stop, RodUK...you're treading dangerously close to common sense. And that just doesn't always fly here!

What we're going for here is the total and complete abandoning of any sense of personal responsibility and any and all notions of self-reliance and common sense.

20 years ago, you would've been told to put the damn burger down and get on a treadmill. Now, you get to sue because of your "plight".

There is a lot of hype about the McDonalds' scalding coffee case. No one is in favor of frivolous cases of outlandish results; however, it is important to understand some points that were not reported in most of the stories about the case. McDonalds coffee was not only hot, it was scalding -- capable of almost instantaneous destruction of skin, flesh and muscle. Here's the whole story.

Yes. The sodomy laws exist mainly in the bible belt (surprise surprise).

I'm not discussing the issue of Big Fat in a topic that deals with what other countries do wrong.

I have seen this information on CNN and the BBC but I don't feel like searching for those articles. This was the top result from google. Even though the source may appear to be biased, the information is indeed factual.

    <a href="http://www.sexuality.org/l/activism/sodomlaw.html"; target="_blank">http://www.sexuality.org/l/activism/sodomlaw.html</a>;

    SURVEY OF U.S. "SODOMY" LAWS

SUMMARY. As of May 1995, only *22* states and Puerto Rico retained arguably enforceable laws banning private oral and anal intercourse between consenting adults. (Note that a few of these laws may also apply to manual stimulation of another's sex organs.) Before 1961, every jurisdiction had one of these so-called "sodomy" laws on the books. From 1961 to 1993, laws were repealed in *24* states, DC, and *3* territories. And they were struck down by state supreme courts in *4* states (KY, MA, NY, PA).

BREAKDOWN. In *11* of the states retaining "sodomy" laws (GA, ID, MD, MI, MS, LA, NC, OK, RI, SC, VA), those laws are *gender-neutral* (purport to apply to gay and straight sex), and violations are felonies. (Note, however, that the federal constitutional rights of privacy or equal protection may (probably do) preclude enforcement of these laws against mixed-sex couples.)

In *5* more states (AL, AZ, FL, MN, UT), the laws are also *gender-neutral*, but violations are only misdemeanors. (Again, enforcement against mixed-sex couples is constitutionally questionable.)

In another *5* states (AR, KS, MO, TN, TX), the laws prohibit only *same-sex* intercourse, and violations are only misdemeanors.

And in Montana, the law prohibits only *same-sex* intercourse, but violations are felonies.

In addition, Puerto Rico has a "sodomy" law that clearly prohibits *same-sex* intercourse but may also include *mixed-sex* intercourse; violations are felonies.

Guam, the *U.S. Virgin Islands*, and American Samoa have decriminalized private, consensual intercourse. (I have been unable to locate a copy of the Northern Marianas code.)

On topic: Norway: Our Prime Minister is a priest(!), we hunt whales (against international treaties), our current biggest political party is a right-wing populist joke. Our food is bad. We're filthy rich but still some people have to beg, there are queues for healthcare and our school buildings fall apart.

Oh, other countries, was it? Sweden then, damn stupid king over there. but the princess looks kinda nice...

    Yes lets bash Sweden

Now they won´t close Barsebäck (which is the worst placed nuclear plant. I´m able to see it from my roof on a clear day and I live less than one kilometer from the center of Copenhagen and less than half a kilometer from our parliarment. They promised to do so on several occations the last ten years.

They don´t turn off the heat or light when they go on holiday.

But your right . The prinsesses are not that bad.
