PowerBook: Moto 7445 still drains too much power, 0.18 micron process w SOI squeeze still requires Apple to redesign a new battery.(Extra R& D not justify) Moto did not have 0.15 micron, therefore forget speed bump in the next few months. Only 0.13 micron will solve the problem
iBook: Just update, Sahara is no go, it uses 200 MHZ bus. Apple is not going to redesign its system bus. Extra R&D makes no sense.
I think most Apple hardware is selling like hot cakes at the moment... except possibly the Ti. 667mhz all of a sudden looks a bit tardy.I think It might get an iPod type battery and Apollo.
i HIGHLY doubt a superdrive (DVD-r) for the powerbook. look how long it took them to get a combo drive slot loading and thin. if there were slot loading superdrives, i would expect that we would see them on the iMac first.
superdrive is not as big an issue for powerbooks as the combo drive. if they had a superdrive for the powerbook (HIGHLY DOUBT), then it would probably only be on the top "custom built" model. there is only a small crowd (most likely) that need a PORTABLE superdrive. most everyone else should/would get a powermac/imac. anyways, there is probably a BETTER EXTERNAL burner with firewire that you could get
i would poo in my pants if they released a superdrive equipped powerbook between now and up through MWNY, and probably the rest of this year. don't count on it.
I wouldn't mind. I'm taking the long delay in updating AppleWorks to mean that they're atoning for AW 6 and doing it right this time. I hope I'm right.
A grammar checker that actually understands English (unlike MS Word's) would be a nice touch. Failing that I'd rather not have one at all.
The main thing I want AW to be is more of what it's always been: Fast, uncluttered, dead simple to use, and powerful in all the right ways.
MacMall seems to be clearing out its TiBooks and iPods. This seems to support the idea of a speedbump in the TiBook, but an updated iPod???

How do you figure this? Is $394 a channel-clearer? Is that $6 off only available for a limited time?

The desktop line is fine. The powerbooks are slowing down. [ed: I saw somewhere today that for the first time the Pbooks have dropped out of the top ten sellers list in Japan.] The iBooks haven't been updated since October. There was the introduction of the 14 incher at MWSF but I don't consider that an upgrade. It is the same computer in a bigger box. The main iBook is the 12.1 inch version. I'd like to see that get refreshed, a little faster and a little lighter.

Gee...
The MPC7445 dissipates 10.3 watts under typical loads @ 733 MHz.
The MPC7441 dissipates 11.4-15 watts under typical load @ 600 MHz.
Ahem?
And a DVD-R drive in a PowerBook with a base that is only 3/4 of an inch thick? Please...
I have a friend who runs a computer store in the UK. He has been trying for 2 months now to get prices etc. from his suppliers for me.
Neither have TiBooks in stock or appear able to get them (or perhaps not willing to try). I'm taking that as a sign supply may be drying up, ready for a new model.
Im probablly just deluding myself. But I can keep my hopes up.
If the iBook went to a 700 MHz G3 (like the one the iMac SE used,) you could be pretty sure that the PowerBook G4 would be up to 733 or 800 MHz with the MPC7445...which by all indications is currently available from Motorola.
Even though I now doubt we'll see any new TiBooks, I think we'll see some new displays with better screens, higher res, and new casing. Maybe even a 24 inch Cinema Display for the price of teh current one!

Optical Drive: May be a DVD-R drive for PowerBook

I guess if Apple stops selling it you can probably still pick one up cheap from MacMall or something.
Now that MWT is just five weeks what do you think we will see there? Apple has jumped in and forecast no new CPUs.

MW Tokyo: Behind the rumors. Way behind.
Apple is probably hoping to have rolled out QT6 by then. Updates to OS X and iPhoto are possible.
I expect the rest of the keynote to be a parade of current hardware and software.
The biggest possible news - emphasis on possible - would be Photoshop 7.

http://www.macmall.com/macmall/countdown/default.asp is the blowout page. And although I'm not a retail expert, I think I heard somewhere that when the last digits in a price are differant from everything else being sold, its being blown out (ie the .94 instead of .99).
It's not on the regular product page...

Looks like their going to replace the entire product line, then.

I think only some retailers do this (ie CompUSA).

Powerbook update:
same processor or small increase
1600x1024 screen
Radeon 7500 mobility 32MB
up to 60GB drives
iBook:
12.1" gets 733Mhz processor
256MB RAM on board
14.1" gets 1280x1024 screen
256MB RAM
800Mhz G3

And Photoshop for OS X (7) is also aimed at the end of March according to industry sources, so that's not unlikely.
I guess they'll hype the iMac once more.
"It's just sooooooooooooooooooo great we have to tell the Japanese again!"
800 mhz for the fastest version with radeon mobility 7500. 667 mhz for the slowest version.
Minor i book update with 700 mhz G3 (unfortunately no sahara chips) and perhaps radeon mobility in it.
