Funny thing is that he was right that HTC makes a profit. In fact, from what I've read, HTC and samsung are the only android handset makers that are. My own personal opinion though is that HTC makes a profit not because of android but because of their hardware.

Thank you. Finally, somewhat unbiased argument. I am also right that Apple does NOT post iphone "profits" (keep changing the issue, clones of silopissism) every quarter. Interesting that he has disappeared. Heh heh ...
Yeah, yeah, call me a jerk. But I am right. Na na heh heh ....
But seriously, how does HTC hardware stand out so much from Motorola? I can see that argument about Samsung because of their AMOLED display. What does HTC have that's unique? Do you think it's their industrial design? On the other hand, the Sense UI is pretty slick (based on basic testing; I am an iphone owner, despite how you all try to pin me down as an Android), which suggests it is software that distinguishes HTC.
Nokia, Oracle, and Apple are up next and Android may indeed be an expensive OS to ship before long, particularly when so few manufacturers were reporting significant profits in the first place.
Just getting back to the forum. Between stelligent's personal attacks and inability to understand the soupçon of math needed island hermit should just ignore that guy. He either is purposely trolling or is unable to comprehend the data. Ether way a losing battle.

Exactly -never get involved in a land war in asia, and never get into a forum war with a troll or an idiot.

You do have to sometimes wonder what hole they keep crawling out of....... and why.

No one makes money off Android (except perhaps the carriers). The chase for market share is a fool's game.
It's ludicrous that anyone (even on AppleInsider) can still make this ridiculous argument today! HTC is making record breaking profit. Moto came back from the dead. Sony Ericsson is relevant again. Although it's difficult to say exactly how much, Samsung is making a killing in Android phones.
And Google is already in the black on Android without making a single dime on it directly. Not to mention the intangible benefit of long term revenue opportunity from one of the hottest new business in the coming decade. They control their destiny.
It's interesting that the comparison is longer iOS vs. Android. In other words, the world is conceding that Android has won the OS war.
Now it's device against device. It's great the iPhone is mostly tops. But the fact that it's neck-and-neck against Samsung Charge or HTC Thunderbolt is a sign to rejoice for the latter two, not for Apple.
I think this survey is the harbinger of trouble for the iPhone line. IPhone 5 has to be a major renewal and not just a faster phone with iOS 5 as the killer feature. While software should be what counts, most consumers will not buy based on that because they cannot fully appreciate the software while comparing one phone against another. Furthermore, Android can outpace iOS 5 with their next release. So, the hardware of iP5 must be compelling. Must. http://bit.ly/kNsy4V
Read the article again s l o w e r this time, as it mostly mentions Android versus iPhone comparisons.
How do you jump from HTC making a measly $500 million to that being profit directly from Android? There are plenty of ways that company can put off debts or cut corners so they can show some modicum of profit to investors by the end of the quarter. Based on their previous efforts, the reason they and others have had to cling to Android, and even Dell saying it's cheaper to pay WP7 licensing than to use the free Android I'm stumped at how you can say that Android is the reason HTC turned a slight profit last quarter.
HTC didn't make a "slight" profit last quarter. They have been making record profits and revenue since summer of 2009. They sell a few Windows phones - everything else is Android. It's pretty obvious they are doing just fine with Android.

What happened to Apple posting their iphone profits every quarter? You wrote that - it's in black and white. Please back that up. Im willing to learn. It's a losing battle indeed for you when you make up facts and are caught doing it.

Someone gets it here. But is Sony Ericsson really relevant again? That, I am not sure of.

HTC is indeed doing well, but Moto & S-E? Moto made a loss in two out of the last 3 quarters.
S-E - is exactly where they were a year ago, making around 20mil euros per quarter in operating profit - 40mil around christmas.
Really all you can really say for them is that Android stopped the bleeding. They're no longer dying fast, but their profits are both tiny - even compared to HTC or Samsung- never mind Apple

Citation please. The only reference that I have found about revenue Google made from android is $1 Billion in about two quarters and I highly doubt that covers R&D much less enough to make a profit.

Let's not play the troll game It's pretty clear from their profits trends that Android is working well for Google. Unless you think that their desktop search suddenly got drastically more profitable for some reason.

I'm not playing a troll game. You made an assertion and I would like a link where the numbers can at least be estimated. I've never seen them break out their mobile revenue and even if they did, it would also include revenue from iphones as well.

In your humble opinion?
Yeah sure. Only my opinion that intelligence is useful. No one else can see that. Sure ...
LOL! I can just see this guy... flipping through every page he can find to see if that data is available.
He can't find it... we know that... and now he has to come back with more of his smarmy comments and bullshit.
Well, show me where Apple posts the iphone profits, wise guy. Show me. Don't twist the argument. Show me the data.
And that is just the start.
Nokia, Oracle, and Apple are up next and Android may indeed be an expensive OS to ship before long, particularly when so few manufacturers were reporting significant profits in the first place.
Apple is up next? Isn't Apple already suing?

I never ever said they did.
It's you that keeps on twisting.
.. but this is what happens when you don't come armed with enough intelligence to follow the argument.
