I think that the HP touch is probably a perfectly decent device that won't sell much better than the Xoom or Galaxy 10.1. Physically it's a carbon copy of the iPad, same black borders, same form factor, spot it across the room and you'd think it was an Apple product. Yes HP have their own OS, but users haven't found that OS compelling in handsets, why should they suddenly get excited about it for tablets?

The device doesn't have a strongly defined industrial design that differentiates it fromthe iPad, so unless HP dramatically undercuts the iPad why would people buy knockoff-Apple when they can get real Apple? Especially given that a tablet is a luxury purchase.

So expect this device to be launched to great fanfare, expect a '1m devices shipped' announcement after a few weeks. Then expect to never hear from it again as those devices sit in channels and gather dust.

How true. That's because HP and others cannot replicate the iPad's magic: http://bit.ly/iF3qzd

Lol. So the competition is pretty much screwed. Before the iPad, almost everyone (relatively everyone) dismissed tablets. And now after the iPad, everyone views tablets as iPad copy cats.

People seem to relegate Apple as a company that only excels in sales and marketing. Uhh, don't companies 'sell' things, so wouldn't 'sales and marketing' be as important as innovation when the goal is to sell? Apple only needs to make top notch products at the highest quality. Their brand and popularity will sell the products. I'm sure every CEO would love to be like Steve Jobs right now.
