For some reason the car inquestion keeps reminding me this:

Like the UAZ 4WD, it has this Ninteenfiftyish/military/popular-republic/je ne sais quoi.

Now if you really want to be so unlike all the other Yanqui sheep, buy the UAZ, you'll never see another one on the road.

Personally, I like the boxy-utility look. I've even got one of these:

    Beautiful.

Several other classics of the genre:

    Citroën Méhari

    Fiat Campagnola

    GAZ-67B a.k.a. Ivan-Willys

    And for some nostalgia:

Nun-Nun (not the big Mack truck, the weird-looking vehicle on the right-sdie corner of the photo).

Derived from the WW2 Dodge, using Chrysler components.

Oooo. That Citroën Méhari is tasty. Reminds me of a car we used to rent as surfer-kids in Australia...'Mokes'. Damn, they were a blast.

Speaking of unpractical 4x4s, my dad was trying to sell me one of these. . . or something that was very similar.

I could be mistaken but wasn't this thread more or less your opinion about the Honda Element? So if they say they don't like it because the way it looks isn't that a reason for not liking it? So what does it matter if they don't like it because it looks like crap? (which I think they both do, and I happen to have a mustang and I like it but you can hate it, more power to you in fact) So why would you tell people "Screw you" for disliking a car?

It doesn't have bench seats to squish a million kids into. I wouldn't call it a "Soccer Mom" car. Not enough seating capacity. Sorry.

Maybe a "Hockey Dad" car (lots of gear and big bags)

Hey I walked past an element last night. It was parked on the street here in Chicago.

    1) It's small and boxy in a mail truck kind of way. Not big and boxy in a "I'll crush Saddam under my 4WD" Hummer kind of way.

    2) The plastic molded body panels make it look like a Fisher Price or Playskool toy. Not like a Tonka Truck of the Hummer.

    3) The two attractive women I was with (one just back from Japan) didn't like either.

    Hey JohnnySnot,

    YOU'RE a soccer mom car!

Ahhhh, but seriously folks: somebody buy one of these and give us a year-long update on it so I'll know if I should buy one next year.

I am buying one this week. I am getting the EX fully loaded in either Shoreline Mist Metallic (a metallic toupe) or the Night Black Pearl (a shiney black). I am gonna get a good deal I think. I have them talked down $1,000 under list price, I am gonna get 3.x % APR (60 months), and I am trading a 98 Jetta GT for about $4,000 I hope. I am putting $500-$800 down. Not bad. I will report later...

    1) I am dating a stripper (who is a hottie) and she LOVES the Element. "Makes my panties moist" she says. Meow.

    2) I also know a really ugly girl (I mean NASTY. Pimples. Fat. Greasy hair. Hairy lip. You get the idea). Anyway, she likes the Element, also.

    3) Neither of the girls mentioned above have been to Japan.

The point being, for those too thick to get it, is if you want to impress hot chicks you should buy a different car. Take me for example. When I roll up in my Civic I flash the VTECH and the bitchs be all over my ride. Four doors ladies, you can all have a ride. Watch the paint!

The one back from Japan hates it so much I'm sure she wants nothing to do with a Honda.
