Homosexuals and kids

Posted:
in General Discussion edited January 2014
Its a question that is discussed here in Denmark at the moment so I want to know what arguments for and against the AI crowd have on this:

1) Should homosexual couples be able to adopt kids? Right now heterosexual people and homosexual singles are allowed here

2) Should lesbians be able to get artificial insemination? RIght now couples and single females are able to get it for free from a doctor. But lesbian couples aren´t even allowed to pay a doctor to do this. Only place in northern Europe where they do this is a midwife who are allowed to do this because she is NOT a doctor (strange laws sometimes)

anybody who wants a kid to take care of

    needs a pet

anybody who genuinely wants to rescue an abandoned child

    is a hero

Difficult to tell the difference sometimes, but often, it's homos with money running into this problem, like all monied people, they're more likely to fall into the first category than the second.

Homos without money, like heteros without money, have poor adoption chances. They can't buy babies or sperm.

    Rosie O'Donnel is the enemy.

Ah, sort it out for yourselves...

Yes and yes. Why should a gay or lesbian couple's sexual preferences preclude them from providing a loving home to a child? What applies to straight couples should apply to same-sex couples...

If two people want to adopt a child and can pass the requirements, then what is the problem? That's the way I feel about it. I feel the same way if two people want to have a child.

Who am I to say they can't raise a kid? If an 'unfit' heterosexual couple is allowed to have a kid and then give them up for adoption, then why can't a 'fit' homosexual couple be allowed to adopt the child?

Well, I think lesbian couples should first see whether they can get natural insemination for free from me...

Rod, I can just see Rosie O'Donnel jumping into your bed and saying "I heard you give free inseminations! Let's have at it!" as you scream "NOOO!!! Why, God, why?!"

    My opinion on the subject:

There's no reason a homosexual is less fit to raise a child than a heterosexual. I mean, there are cases of sexual abuse of girls by their fathers, but they are very rare. And as far as homosexual parents "programming" a child to be a homosexual... well, those statements are pretty groundless, because we know that almost all people (therefore almost all homosexuals) came from heterosexual relationships. Sometimes, a child's conservative heterosexual parents will try to dissuade their homosexual child from expressing themselves, but deep down it's just who you are.

So, if heterosexual parents raise homosexual children all the time, and sexual abuse within a family is rare... why should it be any different the other way around? I think most of the laws in place regarding homosexuality are leftover from a very conservative, hateful time in our nation's history.

I knew this would come up, it's a politically correct cop-out, there are reasons very specific to being homosexual. You've made them as naive as can be, but the community has not done it's best help its own case. They've made a politics out of hedonism, and now they have to pay some of the consequences of that because it reflects very directly on the upbringing of a child. Do gays stay together as much as heteros? What do we know about the relative state of fidelity, promiscuity, and monogamy in the gay community? What we know tends be a strike against gays in general (even if it isn't fair to individual members).

This doesn't discount homos, but neither is it a specifically anti-homo stance, it's part of the same thinking that typically disadvantages single people.

A community with a gay pride day that looks the way gay pride days tend to look (here in TO) is asking for much of the resistance they receive. Too bad too, because many of the homos who want children probably don't fit the flaming parade day stereotype.

I say yes to both counts. I think that Homos and Hetros have the potental to raise a child equally well. I think that it is horible (not that anything can be done about) that couple with a set of reproductive organs in working order can have a child. I mean children are often abused, by irrisponsible parents, and there should be some sort of test. Then again, i think you should have to take a SPECIAL test to drive a large suv(In the Army if you want to drive a humvee in on a base you need a special test above and beyond a drivers license, so why in the civilian world is the only requirement $$$$$ ). And in order to speak casually you need a speaking license (I have herd an awful lot of dumb things).

as far as relationship stability goes

    male/male are the shortest

    then

    male/female

    then

    female/female

i'll find the source. it was in an old psych. textbook i kept 'cause they'd only buy it back for $3.

IIRC, the female/female was significantly longer than the male/female, which was much longer than the male/male.

what you really might want to look at though is how people turn out in homes w/o a father or mother.

    More proof that lesbians rock!

I know that gay male promiscuity is off the scales, but I don't have the numbers.

As for hetero male promiscuity, I was surprised by how bad it is.

Hetero marriage? a disaster yes, but I think part of the adoption process involves a judgement about how likely it is that a couple will stay together.

That's what irks me about celeb adoption, or rent a kid. In any sane metric, no one would look at these people and decide they have a decent shot at staying together, but Rosie and woody can have all the unfortunate children they want because of who they are. I doubt that celebs see children as anything other than really smart pets.

Sure, no problems here in either case. Good parenting is more about good values (I kinda hate that term since Marilyn Quayle appropriated it) than transcend sexual roles. I do think kids should have strong role models of both sexes, so while hetero couples usually serve that purpose most conveniently (not necessarily best), I think kids can find other such models for themselves, or their parent(s) should find someone like that for their kids.

Didn't you know that every woman is a lesbian? At heart? That's why girl on girl porn is so abundant.

I feel badly for the lesbians out there, poor girls, I'm thinking of starting a lesbian insemination program, I've got some pics here, I've been practising.

Women? If they're attractive and both feminine, sure. The big bulls shouldn't be allowed to.

The main problem with adoption of childs by homosexual are the parent's model.

Like many of you i don't think that homosexual will be worse parents than heterosexual.

But childs like strong references, and are very normative. They can live without these norms but they are normative, they want to look like the others. They like to have a father and a mother like any other else. They suffer when their parents divorces.

So the question is : is it good to be raised by homosexual parents in a psychological point of vue ?

Even in the time of the ancient greek, these case never appear, there where a mother and a father, even if both have serious homosexual escape.

I hate to see that conversation when the dominant life partner sits the adopted child down for a little heart to heart. Timmy, I'm going too talk to you about about the birds and the bees, birds and the birds and bees and the bees. Hehe, I just had a thought, I used to look at my dads pr0n, well what do you do if all he had was Playgirl!

The idea of two gay men adopting a child strikes me as ridiculous. Why on earth would two gay men want a baby that wasn't genetically theirs?

    Weird.

This and one more thing. It is fact that a child should grow in harmony. Remember orphans or children brought up by one parent ? most of them have some difficulties with comunication; not many of them would admit it, though. This may not be obvious in light of idiots and jerks brought up by 2 parents, but still. Can you imagine yourself 5 years old telling a friend of yours that you have two mothers? Two fathers? Mother and father each of which has a penis? Do you all think it's just OK? It's frightening.

The god-damned politics who push such laws don't give a damn about children in general and your children too. If I were gay I would not even dare to think about having a child in those circumstances. Unless I wanted to turn the child's life into a nightmare.

Gays and lesbians, do what you want, nobody wants to take your sexual life ? just leave kids alone!
