Fyi - Just finished a chat with a MobileMe rep via Express Lane. Was told that the MobileMe Feedback page is the best place to tell Apple that you would like MobileMe services continued. Here's a link to the page.
Just point it to a different address and iWeb will publish it there.
For heaven's sake.
Yes? Point iWeb to where? Your personal domain? Fine I have that (and do use it a lot), but must people do not have another place to put web pages or don't know how to find and manage a directory.
I like the galleries and iDisk hosted web sites for my personal/family stuff. It is easy and in my mind quick and easy is good. I have too many other things to do. It would be a real drag to loose galleries and web hosting. Not really a cloud service without web hosting!

I do find that iDisk can be very problematic - sometimes bogging down and taking a very long time. For a while I moved to Dropbox - which I still use for certain things - but went back to iDisk when I got a new MBP.
I know that iCloud has a new Documents service, but I am not sure it is equivalent to iDisk. I do not want to rely on my program to write to iCloud. I want it to work as it does now. I also am willing to pay for the service.
Day late & a dollar short on the iDisk thing. When they announced they'd be killing it, I took the money I would have given to Apple to keep my iDisk space, and gave it to Nearly Free Speech and Dropbox. I'm pretty done paying for Apple's cloud services. I've been on board since the original iDisk days, and have had a .mac email address since forever, but this whole thing has just worn me out on them. I wish I could have back the hours of my life I've wasted wading through contacts and deleting the duplicates and bad phone numbers as a result of the MobileMe mess, and I can't even sync a calendar with my G5 any more. Why should I bother?
I'll probably resort to syncing bookmarks with a symlink & Dropbox, & forget about the rest of their syncing services, unless they're free.
Don't get me wrong -- I love Apple's hardware, and I love OS X, but their cloud services have been an over-priced wreck for a long time, and I'm done paying.
Can we please shutter "shutter"? That's an overworked metaphor. Some years ago, a tornado de-shuttered my house. One of the shutters flew away, never to be found again. Since then, I seem to be tripping over shutters all over the web. Must be where they went. The shutters have shown up on web sites right before they've closed, and now on product features! When you shutter the door on your office, drive home, shutter the door on your car, and after you shutter your email, please don't shutter your dictionary or your thesaurus. The English language has more than one word for what you call shuttering. I read about all these shutters and shudder. Stand out from the pack! Shutter this nonsense and get a vocabulary!
You two realize that iCloud has APIs that will tie into both iOS and Mac App Store apps, right? There is no reason to think there will be no way to sync data outside of iTunes with this dynamic setup and every reason to think that it'll be world's better than what iDisk has give .Mac/MobileMe users over the years.
Ties to iOS or Mac Store Apps don't answer the issues, and neither does "There is no reason to think there will be no way to" do something. When it's here and working great I'll bite. Otherwise there are too many other options that work now.

Your argument fails on two levels: 1) iCloud isn't even here yet and 2) you have until the end of next June to find a solution for iDisk. So until that day comes and there are no other options for syncing data to iCloud that can be accessed via your Mac and iOS-based devices (which there will be) then you have no reason to bitching and moaning.
I'd like to keep using Galleries, and iWeb, or better see it become iWeb Pro, so that it replaces my Dreamweaver 8!!! I'd be willing to pay for iWeb Pro, if Galleries are part of that!!! Galleries should be Password Protected, if that what the owner chooses! Public and thus open to Google, or Private, and thus hidden from Google!!!
Galleries already are password protected. You set the details up in iPhoto.
No kidding. iCloud will be a work in progress for years. I have always assumed that much more functionality was coming, including the return of much that was MobileMe.
So what's stopping you? iWeb publishes to absolutely anywhere, not just soon-to-be-discontinued Apple hosting.
TextEdit is a better website developer than Dreamweaver. You should be using iWeb right now, or Coda.
Open Apple++ and Open Apple+-. Open Apple+0 resets. It's right under the View menu?
1. Yes, nothing is stopping me from using iWeb for now... I am just concerned that Apple might take it away... They didn't publicly and clearly state that they are keeping it... Of course I understand that iWeb App and Hosting are separate issues!
2. TextEdit vs DW.... I don't know HTML, so I need WYSIWYG, which is what DW is to me... Learning another app instead of DW doesn't interest me yet.. There is always fear of that other 3rd Party App going out of business... That's why iWeb seemed attractive, cause Apple is Apple... But now, it's clear that Apple can kill it's own apps too... So, I guess I'll stick with DW, except I'd hate to buy a whole New DW Upgrade for my MBP 17' which will have Lion vs my PB G4, 10.4.11 right now... Or I'll just keep using Dreamweaver 8 on my PB G4, which would limit me to home use only, since I won't carry 2 Laptops...
3. Re: "Open Apple++ and Open Apple+-. Open Apple+0 resets. It's right under the View menu? "
I know about that feature on Macs, but I was asking if that Font Size Control existed on iOS Devices!!! People with bad eyes could use that kind of Help!!! That Font Size Control should be part of iOS, unless it already is! I can't wait for iPhone 5 and iPad 3!!!!

A true professional would not use such an oversimplified tool, and making it more complex would make it harder to use. So the same people who wish for all these advanced features would shudder and complain if it were to actually make it to market.
Example: Adding Facebook and Twitter links automatically? What about people who don't want those links? What hoops will they have to jump through to remove them, and how will that impact the site layouts in the templates? What if someone just wants one or the other? What if people start complaining that the links are added in a bad spot and want to move them? How do you make these options work then while it keeping it simple for everyone?
Web design gets complicated real fast. That is why you either have crippled "easy to use" solutions like iWeb or pro tools like Dreamweaver and just about nothing in between.
There is nothing stopping you from not using iWeb anymore anyway. Just publish to a different host other than MobileMe. There are millions of free hosts out there, plenty to choose from.
All Excellent points about iWeb Pro, Thanks a lot!!!
One should be able to Configure iWeb Pro down to only the Features they need! They could Choose a Setting to add Facebook or Twitter Links added Automatically, or Manually, or both to Specific Pages-Templates etc, with Manual Drag and Drop Positioning of those Buttons!!! Apple has plenty smart people to make iWeb Pro happen!
I already answered about iWeb with other Hosting... I'm just concerned about Apple killing it all together... iWeb might also become Outdated, because the world is moving to HTML5, and Hosting Providers might be changing Standards which might make iWeb UNUSABLE, unless Apple keeps Supporting/Updating iWeb!!! But Apple didn't Commit to iWeb's Future strongly enough!!!!
Of course, Apple can just Buy Adobe too, Kill Flash, and turn Dreamweaver into iWeb Pro, ha ha ha!!!
Yes, one can "cheat" and use Facebook Pages as their own websites, but guess what? In Notes on Facebook, the Links in this format http://apple.com are NO LONGER CLICKABLE!!!!, unless one knows how to write HTML Code, href blah blah blah...., which is too Time Consuming!!!
Yes, real Pro's don't have to rely on Dreamweaver and such, but FOR THE REST OF US, who don't do HTML, iWeb Pro would be a HUGE HELP!!!! Then we can dumb it down in the Preferences, Settings, and only use the Features we need! Add to that Apple Forums and 1on1 Training, plus Apple's own Online Video Tuturials, and there could be lots of New Business for Apple, where people can make their own sites, knowing that those sites will look great on iOS Devices, or any Mobile Devices, including Androids!!!
Galleries already are password protected. You set the details up in iPhoto.
Yes, I know... Again, I am just concerned about Apple discontinuing iWeb!!!
If not, can those Galleries be Published, let's say, through GoDaddy? And then, on GoDaddy, and other Hosts, would they function the same way, as far as my Q about Password and being Open/Hidden vs. Google and other Searches? That was my Q... Or are those Features Exclusive to iWeb + iDisk Combo, and thus won't work with other Hosting Providers, like GoDaddy?

Well you can create galleries with the same look in iweb, not sure about the password protection.
Did that once for a test, there is no magic in the code, it can run on every webhost.
Just a pain to do it when there is a working gallery.
iDisk, Gallery, and the sync are the parts i use most from the mobile me package, would really be a shame to loose that.
Could use Dropbox instead of idisk, and move the galleries to a Flikr stream, but would prefer I could keep it running that way, without any work.
I want iDisk, I am satisfied with it in its current form and willing to pay for it, in fact it is why I am paying for MobileMe. Who can I contact about this?

I'm with you - I use iDisk daily for files that I want to access from home and work or pass to my assistant.
I also use keychain sync - can't imagine having to keep track of all my passwords manually on both machines... Signature sync and email account sync seem unnecessary since you only set them up one time.
I've tried the "cloud" as it currently stands - it had a habit of deleting my entire address book periodically - it would always come back, but sometimes took days to do so (as I found out once while on vacation). Using the "cloud" for iCal means letting Apple send announcements about meetings in the background, with no way to check what they are sending or confirm if the invitation even went out (since they don't use Mail for that function) - wasn't a workable option for me with work so I moved all of my work calendars back to "on my mac". The only way to share calendars now, though, is with mobile me, so the home calendars stayed on the cloud. Sometimes the "cloud" calendars sync with the phone and sometimes they don't and they can't be edited on the phone, which makes no sense at all.
It's all very haphazard and frustrating - I really miss the way mobileme used to work and am not willing to move my data to iCloud....

What are you calling an argument? I'm saying why the not-here-yet iCloud doesn't mean anything to me until it is. And from what thin air do you pull out the "bitching and moaning" ? As I posted I use GoogleDocs and iDisk for clouding large files to others (SmugMug for images and RackSpace for archiving) They all do their job. I have no idea what you're alluding to.
I'm with you - I use iDisk daily for files that I want to access from home and work or pass to my assistant.
You might want to try moving shared files to GoogleDocs. It wasn't pretty for a while but now we have no problem setting up systems for file traffic. They have a very simple way to share folders with one or twenty clients, and it gives much better feedback to the uploader and downloader than iDisk does.
We're also using Google to sync our calendars and contacts. Works great.

Apple doesn't seem to be making a COMMITMENT to iWeb Application... Add to that the rumors about them stopping iDVD, and the UNCERTAINTY grows... Eventually we'll see...
Hopefully APPLE is reading this Entire Thread and Site... But then, AI Audience is not an Average Joe The Consumer... Thus, we here are likely to be considered a MINORITY, and thus a LOW PRIORITY...
