OK, now you're just trolling. Because I have the exact same phone and it has never run like crap. Ever. Even with the latest OS updates.
Really? Never? I don't think anybody believes that claim for a bit unless you never use your phone for anything.
I own two iPhone 3GS': one for my wife and one for myself. We use them far more often than our home computers and I'm posting in this thread on my phone right now. Both have ran poorly in the past few months and wiping the phones hasn't helped much. Given that they're ancient by today's standards I don't hold it against Apple. I'm just waiting for the new iPhones so I can ditch these slow things.
My 2 year old 3GS is okay with iOS 4.3.x. Performance has been about the same as iOS 3. After a summer where my kids and nephews beat it up with Infinity Blade, Rage, Pocket God and who knows what, it is still working good. YMMV. Or your experience will vary.
Waiting for the 2011 iPhone has been interminable. 960x640 IPS display with the A5 will be a quantum leap from the 3GS. 4x the CPU, 9x the GPU. That's huge. Crossing my fingers for 64 GB storage.
It makes this all sound like an MI6 operation, it's ridiculous.
Anything in the world of business that does not equate to an Apple executive on stage during a keynote stating something outright or Apple Store employees loudly stating, "HEY EVERYONE! WE'RE BLACKING OUT VACATION DAYS FOR THE SECOND WEEK OF OCTOBER!" constitutes 'quietly'.
It's not ridiculous, it's business. They're not explicitly telling.
I think the only reason why Apple was holding out on us was because of the ios 5. Production probably started late July or mid August. I just can't wait to get rid of my samsung phone, death to them.
It can't be as bad as my 3G. It only lasts about 20 minutes now. I feel like I'm limping to the finish line. What happened to June/July!?
Heh, the daughter has the wife's heavily abused 3G. The mute switch is non-functional, it just randomly mutes for no outside reason at all, and the battery lasts between 30 minutes and 6 hours. I can find no rhyme or reason to it. And she was so happy to get that phone after the POS nokia she had before that she doesn't even complain about it.
...but she is ready to buy a new phone. I sure hope they have a cheap model or drop the current iPhone 4 to around $75 for her.
My original iPhone is still in fine shape though. The women in my household are sure rough on their electronics.
I'm looking forward to the upgrade too, but I'm puzzled why all of you are having these problems?my 3G is more than 3 years old, but most days even after 18 hours the battery still appears to be about 80% full. I charge it daily, but it never comes close to running out, even if I watch movies and check GPS constantly over the course of a five-hour bus ride. My biggest gripe is the slowness of Google Maps, and the spelling auto-correct could be better.
Isn't the 2nd week in October usually when Apple reports earnings? If so, then unlikely that they would release the iPhones/iPods/iCloud/iOS 5 during this time, perhaps later in the month.
Mine runs pretty crap too. Not unusably crap, but something happened at a dot release which has certainly slowed it up.
Even my iPhone 4 seems slow now. I don't know if the OS updates have progressively slowed it down or my baseline for judging its performance has changed since acquiring an iPad 2. It's probably a combination of both.
Either way I'll still get an iPhone 5 with A5 processor. Apple are very clever in the way that they make us "need" upgrades to products not much more than a year old...

You clearly have some sort of super-phone that acquired superpowers at some stage during it's manufacture or delivery, un undisclosed radiation leak at Apple HQ perhaps?

If the next one doesn't have a bigger screen I will probably go for the htc sensation or sgs II. But only on a 12 mo contract!

Just to be on the safe side, Samsung has also blacked out vacation days during the second week of October.
But only for their engineers.

Yeah. For their lawyers so they can launch that legal assault on Apple they've been planning.

They will be paying upwards of $900+ for someone to stand in line and buy iphones for them.

Samsung is just jealous that Apple succeeded where they couldn't in the phone and tablet market.
Dear god, how fucking long is it going to take. Every week it's further and further out the release.
My 3gs is barely functional. I will never not upgrade yearly to the new model every again.
That is just ridiculous.
