Apple television rumored to come in 3 sizes, including 32" and 55"

Apple's full-fledged television set will arrive at the end of 2012 in three screen sizes, maxing out at 55 inches, a new rumor claims.

Citing sources in Japan, Australia's SmartHouse reported this week that the new Apple television will also come in an entry-level size of 32 inches. It did not indicate exactly what screen size the third model would feature, falling somewhere between the low end with 32 inches and maximum size of 55 inches.

The report said it's a "major Japanese company" that's involved in manufacturing Apple's rumored television set. Echoing previous claims, the report said that the Apple television will feature Siri integration, allowing users to control the TV set with their voice.

Powering the rumored television will be a new processor expected to debut in Apple's third-generation iPad, which the publication said will arrive "midway through 2012." Presumably that processor will be an "A6" custom-built ARM-based CPU.

Apple's anticipated high-end 55-inch model is expected to compete with "smart TVs" from established television makers like Samsung and LG. Those companies' next-generation TV sets are expected to have new features like faster processors, a "combination of OLED display," and "Super HD" from LG, the report said.

Rumors of an Apple television set have picked up steam since the release of the authorized biography of Steve Jobs. In that book, Jobs hinted to biographer Walter Isaacson that Apple was at work on a completely new device that would feature "the simplest user interface you could imagine."

Reports have suggested that Apple's anticipated television set could arrive as early as mid 2012, while others have seen Apple announcing it in late 2012 for an early 2013 sale date.

We need an 'incredulous' emoticon here.

In other news, the iPhone nano is slated to be released on December 15, just in time for the very last of the holiday rush.

No one at AI is enough of a TV geek to figure the 3rd size would be 46"?

I just hope Apple has the smarts to continue the AppleTV box and remote - only adding the newest iOS/SIRI tech and putting a mike into the remote.

And I ain't hollering across the living room at my TV to find out which channel is broadcasting news right now; but, I might murmur to the remote in my hand to bump the brightness up 2 clicks.

I was hoping for some options from 65 to 100 inches. 55 inch is so 2009

And so starts the crux of the problem. TV's are furniture.

My installation requires a 37". So no go for me. (If true, the middle size will probably be 42")

If they did make the size I need, what is the trim? Black? Silver? White? All of these mean no sale to some possibly sizable segment.

Frankly I'll only be upset if they ONLY go the TV route and don't offer the same functionality via a box, because that's the only product I'll be interested in buying.

personally, i'd rather have an improved appleTV with mic and webcam that will give more functionality than what is offered currently but lets me choose the best panel to suit my needs.

when my current 40" lcd needs replacing, i'd prolly go for a 50+ 3d LED

also - i like streaming my content from the mac to my ps3 or my cable netbox rather than use itunes' limited file support (one of the negatives of apple's tightly knit integration)

also i doubt they will go for siri in the apple tv because the increase in sales will be such that they might over burden their servers, whereas a fully integrated tv will be like many other apple products - niche or highend allowing them to give the discerning customer an excellent experience

Oh, I just realized another (albeit satirical) reason that absolutely no one would want an Apple HDTV over a non-hobby Apple TV:

It's going to be glossy. And we all know that we can't abide that.

And in OTHER other news: When watching porn on Apple's new TV, Siri will have the voice of Ron Jeremy.

Can't wait to see the interface. I hope they can port it to an external appliance like an AppleTV 2 so it can be used on larger 3rd party displays. 65" is about the smallest I'd settle for.

Yep, those print related color correction guys will refuse to watch them. Makes you wonder why Apple make things for the rest of the world's population doesn't it?

Makes me wonder if Siri will have retro theme music.

Think outside the box. Your iPhone or iPod Touch will be the remote.

Look at Mac Rumors. They have this same article. I honestly see an Apple Television with a A6 processor. I really don't think Apple will put the A5 in a spendy device. It has been rumored that the A6 will sport two versions. The dual core and the quad core.

It will be a lot thinner than this mockup photo and I would be surprised if it had the same stand as the iMac!

Since I doubt AI will cover it MS will be adding a great many channels to the Xbox 360 which really helps pull us away from the idea that the current method is set in stone *though I'm sure MS is paying lump sums the way cable and sat companies are). They are even adding Verizon's FiOS TV to the mix, though I'm not 100% certain what that means for the 360.

In any case it should mean that non-traditional distribution will be a huge part of 2012. But beware because your cable company might start doing some crazy capping, throttling, and/or price hiking if and when they experience a huge exodus of television subscribers.

42" stuck me as most likely.

CES should have a lot of large TV screens. Only a month to go…

This is why the whole rumour makes little sense over a versatile and profitable box that can make any TV just a dumb monitor.

I'm sure those will be able to function as a remote, but making the ONLY option for a remote be a $200+ separate purchase? That's a little too far out of the box, man.

Perhaps I missed something but when I use my iPhone as a remote...I have to "swipe-it-on" everytime....which makes it a bit too cumbersome.

When Stevo said he "cracked" how to do TV right he meant Siri to replace all but one simple Apple remote....

If it was as simple as putting an ATV inside an HDTV LED screen Apple could have done that a year ago.

Next we'll be hearing new macs to dispense with keyboards and rely on siri.
