Are you really this clueless about how voice recording works? It's simple... when you use a mic to record a voice it records what you are saying. Your phone also works this way. It records what you say, encodes it, then decodes it on the other end.

Clearly the computer would have you read a specific text in order for the ID to work. You can't feasibly have naturally sounding samples of any possible sentence.

And if it's a specific text then you have to assume that text was spoken before. That means if the text was recorded then you can use that recording to trick the system. So now the only such systems use random sentences. Way to move the goal posts. You've made it more complex but there are also complex ways to use a sampling of someone's that has been well recorded to beat such a test. If someone it out to get you they could bug your home, calls, and even get you to recite words they need or put them together from parts of other words you've recorded.
Again, what you are claiming is the party has to be alive when they execute its usage as if there is no way to trick a system. That is patently false.
PS: You don't even need to have your finger present for many fingerprint scanners as they fooled by a fingerprint and some household products.

I'm not sure how Apple could make this any better. I haven't seen the full patent, but there are chances that it may not be granted given the prior usage of something similar.
If the iPad unlocks with a picture of the person like it does with Android, then it's not really worth it. Instead, the user should be asked to turn his right to left like scanning his entire face. And as Apple always loves animations, the face scan from left to right will actually be like sliding the arrow to unlock
