It's more than likely their "fake" project is actually just an experimental project. Just because it doesn't goto directly to market doesn't mean it's not productive R&D. I don't think Apple is trying to dupe employees until they can be trusted, all big tech firms have teams of new hires working on pie in the sky projects that will probably go nowhere.
OK. So am I supposed to be surprised? IIRC, it is fairly well understood that Apple engineers continue to work on fake projects as a matter of course. Fake projects help to quickly identify the source of leaks. Notice how there have been few if any real leaks since the leaks of the Power Mac G4 Mirror Double-Doors case? Leaks of the Power Mac G5 had virtually no similarity to the real G5.
LOL. Fake project: iPhone 5 with aluminum back and 3.7" screen.
Samsung and Google have their own hiring policies:
If you can't copy an Apple product you are NOT hired.
Samsung only hires the best and the brightest from South Korean universities. So hypothetically, Steve Jobs would never get a job at Samsung because he didn't finish college.

Rest easy. There have been zero leaks about an Apple HDTV. Everything that you have heard about such a product has been conjecture.
Your words are simultaneously reassuring and contrariwise to their definition, so I'm unsure how to feel here?

Leak identified. Guilty persons expunged.

That means he was not in the top 200 applicants.
