Samsung's Galaxy SIII suggests that this might be what's happening - Samsung finally stopped trying to duplicate the iPhone exactly.

I would guess most ipads are bought by users themselves and not as gifts.

I know at least one did.  A friends grandmother bought her granddaughter an iPad so she could FaceTime with her.

At first these lawsuits were kinda dull but with every wacky ruling or new piece of evidence they get more and more entertaining.

NO THEY DIDN'T. NO ONE WOULD CONFUSE A SAMSUNG TABLET FOR AN IPAD. THIS IS A CROCK. APPLE IS SUING BECAUSE THEY WANT A MONOPOLY. INNOVATE, DON'T LITIGATE, APPLE.

I haven't heard anyone use iPad as a generic term. Such as, "Have you seen this? I'll iPad it to you...".
If anyone says they will iPad me something I think I would have to hurt them. But I have some people use tablet and iPad interchangeably.

    Yeah... Trolls really are not.

The argument you suppose, would be pretty lame. It's already been proved that Apple users are more educated, affluent, etc.

Besides; the "...they are stupid and not tech savvy" and "..."they use a baby computer" are all arguments by clueless PC users from the 1990s. Today they've changed it to, "Mac users are "smug", "intellectual" "superior", etc.

Mac haters just can't keep their whine straight.

This is so very funny and sad too. So, now I know who bought a bunch of Apple's products: a bunch of illiterates.

SNL should write a sketch about this. It's either the sales at Best Buy were illiterate or the buyers were illiterate and perhaps deaf too. The easy solution is to show the logo, at the front and at the back of the tab, see the words "Samsung" there... However, since perhaps both salespersons are illiterate, and the buyers are also illiterate and perhaps deaf too, the salespersons would explain that the tablet in their buyers' hand was made by Samsung. But, since the buyers were deaf, this too didn't help the situation. The deaf and illiterate buyers bought Samsung's tab anyhow. Since this is such a big news, this scenario must have been repeated countless of times at Best Buy

I am scared of the US as a country. Guns are everywhere, with the last statistics shows there was 90 guns for every 100 people. The money spent on guns and ammunitions should be better spent to teach Americans how to read, and perhaps, teach Americans about the world geography.

Unfortunately, some of these "educated and affluent"  Apple users you are so proud of apparently are "illiterates" and can not read the logo and the word "Samsung" plastered at the bottom  and at the back of the Galaxy tab, It's kinda negating your point ain't it?

Wow, insulting Apple users and an entire country.

Congratulations. You are the first person ever on my block list.

I don't recall a Sony product ever looking like that, much less a phone.

    Inspiration vs "slavish copying"...

Inspiration meaning, "inspired by an aesthetic". The iPhone 4 "could have been a Sony product from the 80s"…  yes, their design "influence" is clearly there, almost like an homage… is it a "copy" of a past or existing product? Why, no…. huh.

Is the iPhone 4 trying really hard to look JUST LIKE an existing and/or current Sony product it is ALSO competing directly with? Why, no….. huh.

So surely the distinction is clear enough then. Paying homage to a design aesthetic with visible influences in your work VS. shipping a product designed to look exactly like the competition's currently shipping product.

The first instance = respect. The second = flattery laced theft...

Beyond the stupid people who bought them, Best Buy has many idiots selling things. I sometimes shop there for random electronics items simply because it's relatively close. Every time I hear someone being ripped off in the background. If they're such a big retailer for Apple, they should be able to give correct sales advice. The worst remains when they tried to sell a couple people a replacement hard drive because their computer had virus issues. If they were starting from scratch, that's a fresh operating system installation either way.

I feel like I'm being trolled by this article too. How many just didn't like the Samsung version. They may have bought it because it cost less, then later decided that the ipad was only a bit more.

Just to clear this up for all the idiots out there, I think he is being sarcastic.

The first one to call people names on an open forum is generally the one.
    Netiquette.

Please. Just. Stop. With. The. Lies. Already!

FACT: With the exception of both being boxes, ANYONE who could/would declare that the the boxes containing the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9/10.1 looks "just like iPad boxes" is either woefully uninformed or just blatantly lying.

The powerbook 100 benefited from design assistance from Sony.  It was a ground breaking laptop at the time and all future laptops owe something to the powerbook 100.

    From wikipedia

The PowerBook 140 and 170 were the original PowerBook designs, while the PowerBook 100 was the result of Apple having sent the schematics of the Mac Portable to Sony, who miniaturized the components. Hence the PowerBook 100's design does not match those of the rest of the series, as it was actually designed after the 140 & 170 and further benefited from improvements learned during their development. The PowerBook 100, however, did not sell well until Apple dropped the price substantially.

compare powerbook 140 to powerbook 100

I actually used a powerbook 100 for work.  Compared to the Mac Portable, which probably permanently injured my shoulder, it was a revelatory device to use, an experience not repeated until I got my first iphone.

Jobs himself always referred to the design smarts of Sony.  But as for a design mockup of a phone that was Sony like: that was a homage product and not actually based on a released product.

I was going to say who could be dumb enough to buy a samsung tablet thinking its an iPad, but after 2 weeks in Disney seeing how people can be, anything can happen really.
