OK - you are distinguishing between those kinds of belief. Fair enough, but Im not sure the distinction really exists. A key element of belief is that it does not require knowledge or evidence to sustain it (as we see ubiquitously), and by corollary, it can be impervious to contrary evidence. That's my reason for rejecting it as a part of the scientific method.
That is one definition of belief. I no longer have access to the OED online ($295 per annum) so I can't look to see which usage came first but I don't think it matters as the result would just bring into a more philosophical disussion.
Now with, say, hypothesis and theory, or melt and dissolve these are terms that are used interchangeably in the demotic but have very precise usage and meanings in a scientific setting. I'm just not seeing that with belief for even if there are facts to back up your position you still have to believe it is real. The facts are just the justification for your beliefs. It's in the Bible. :D
"In order to know that a given proposition is true, one must not only believe the relevant true proposition, but one must also have justification for doing so." ~Plato
There was a rumor repeated on CNBC that Samsung might want to acquire RIMM. Maybe they are preparing to switch to plan B.
Assuming that you mean switching from Android to BB10, I think that would be an unmitigated disaster for Samsung. Business is going great for them, in spite of their illegal behavior and the likelihood that they'll get punished for it. They can afford to pay a fine now and some royalties to Apple going forward. They can't afford to ditch the girl (Android) that got them into the dance (smartphones, etc) to try a fling with the new girl (Blackberry).
If Samsung does buy RIM, I think it will be to capture some more IP that they can either use in their products or, at a minimum, as protection for lawsuits going forward.
[...] Samsung's report stated, "it is critical that attribution of [Galaxy] Tab communications improve and that communication works to differentiate Tab from iPad."
funny thing, i think that attack was deleted... (i read it quoted in another post)
why insult someone, then take it back?...
BTW, the moderators are REAL people not a computer... so your "turing test" to see of the mods are real, is a bad idea... not to mention your posts(dasanman69) if deleted might not be missed...
why would you be kidding about a personal attack on a moderator? "just don't do it" to paraphrase the "NIKE" slogan....
I didn't attack anyone especially not a moderator. I called Champ a dummy and called him chump but it was in fun.
If a product is clearly branded and has a minimal form - as is the case for tablets - its very hard to make a court case out of it.
The 'evidence' presented is extremely weak, remember that all cars look the same from a distance, especially for the untrained eye, and nobody is complaining about that.
Also, car design features are heavily 'borrowed', but nobody is complaining about that; only if you add false logos and advertise it as a car from another brand you will get into trouble.
And nobody with a feel for aesthetics will mistake a Samsung for an Apple.
Case closed.

"Case closed."
That's hilarious, as if these two words would strengthen what is otherwise a litany of subjective, tangential arguments.
It appears Samsung was counting on the stupidity and gullibility of many people in the world so they would have success selling their phones and tablets, after they blatantly copied Apple.
"ALL TRIAL LAWYERS must make appearances in this case and must be admitted in this District." says one of the rules of the case as summarised by Judge Lucy Koh.
So what was Susan Estrich, "lawyer, professor, author, political operative, feminist advocate, and political commentator for Fox News" doing representing Samsung when apparently she has not been admitted to the bar in that particular district?
Sansung does make reasonably good products. I've very happy with my Samsung refrigerator even though it tends to make a sound like a pop-gun now and then for no apparent reason.
Wait until the shelves break, then see how much it costs to replace them, one or two shelves and a crisper drawer = more than an iPad.
I now have a Bosch the design is so much better, simpler and cleaner.
Yes, you can bury your head in the sand if you wish and pretend that it's all the public's fault. But ask yourself - when was the last time someone wanted bought a Ford but thought they were buying a Honda? When was the last time someone flew on American but thought they were flying on United?
Hyundai is not too far off with the way they are copying Mercedes Benz's style. Since there are tons of people that decide solely on price and price alone, who knows if someone will buy a $10K Hyundai thinking it's just like a Mercedes.
OK, I'm agreeing with you, and I am (I reluctantly admit) a fanboy. Before I bought my first Apple product, a MacBook Pro, I had a vaguely anti-Apple sentiment. Then I bought a low-end HP laptop loaded with Vista and went thru two years of utter hell. In 2011 replaced it with a MacBook Pro.... bliss. So I'm the typical fan, with iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV and my beloved MBP. That said, I feel no need to throw rocks at the competition. I completely understand how and why a person walks into a Best Buy or Costco, picks up a Tab and thinks "whoo hoo, a tablet!" But that probably comes out "Yippee, an iPad!" No, they DON'T know. They are casual consumers. They are not stupid, indifferent, lazy, or any other pejorative us fanboys throw at them. They simply want a tablet that does what they've seen the ads represent. Whether they made a good buy or a big mistake is dependent on their experiences over against their expectations.
Geez, we are an elitist, snarky bunch around here!!!
And is this REALLY what Samsung trolls' argument has devolved into? "These people are too stupid to read a label?"
It'd be nice to put a moratorium on all talk that could even be construed as slightly pro-Samsung, at least until the trial's over. At least after that we could get down to actual discussion about actual beliefs that real people might possibly have when they're not on twelve different types of drugs at once. But that's just wishful thinking.

Then stop copying and innovate. M'kay?
