Those renderings look great. One fault I see though, the apple does not seem centered vertically; it seems too low. On the actual iPad mini it'll be slightly higher than center, looks better aesthetically, one of those little details that I love about Apple's products. I hope they break tradition and release colors, give it a more playful feel than the 'daddy' iPad, but I doubt it. Lastly, there's no way this thing is selling for less than 399, not when their new iPod touch starts at 299 (at this time, Apple has virtually no incentive to make it cheaper anyway).

If Apple wanted to kill in the iPod lineup they would add colors to the iPad Mini, but considering they just redid the whole iPod lineup I'm assuming they want to keep it around longer.
Leave colors for the iPods, and keep iPads separate from iPods.
Industrial designer here.
Logo is too low. Apple would put it in the 1st 3rd of the display area.
Design 101. Rule of 3rds.
The current iPad has the logo in the center of the rear panel. Guess Team Ive doesn't subscribe to the rule of thirds. They think different.
I'm actually more surprised you didn't mention the fact that proportionally speaking, the Apple logo is too big.
These renderings seem to highlight a WiFi version. Anyone suspect if there will be 3G minimum and would LTE make it too expensive or too hot to hold?
I'm leaning toward the cellular version being to costly and problematic for various reasons. That said, I can't imagine Apple not making one in parallel just in case all the pieces fall into place.
Amazon's Kindle Fire HD (8.9") will have a cellular option which is $140 more then the WiFi only model when comparing the 32GB models. However, you do get 3GB of data spread out over 12 months with the purchase, which is a pretty decent deal that I think will satisfy many of their customers.
I wouldn't be surprised if the 8.9" Kindle HD with cellular ships after the WiFi-only model which is already slated for late November. I also wouldn't be surprised if most of their customers for the Kindle would simply prefer the WiFi model. Surely Apple know how much personal hotspot is utilized and how many of the iPad types are bought so whatever they do it'll likely be the right one for them.

I am assuming that the price will be, hopefully $100.00 to $125.00 less? Thats would be nice. Apple's retail sales will increase substantially.
I honestly don't see multi colors. Cost prohibited.
Cost prohibitive? No way. It would cost only $1 or so per unit to anodize the shell in different colors and use a different color face plate. If they stick to black and white (which I consider likely), it will be for aesthetic reasons, not cost.
Nice enough looking, but... It's just the same iOS device in a different size.
Imagine that. Same iOS device, but different size than the best selling single smartphone model ever and the best selling tablet ever.
Yeah, it would be foolish to make it fit into the iDevice family. They should really throw out all their previous success and make something as ugly as all your Android vendors could come up with.
I guess I was just looking at the pretty pictures the first time, but on reading this article again there are several mistakes ...

It helps everyone if you guys get your concepts and terminology straight. You are writing articles about design, but apparently have no idea what design is, or the difference between a design and a concept or a concept and a render. These are just renders. It's not art, it's not design. They aren't concepts, nor design concepts, nor ideas. They are just automatically (computer) generated illustrations.
I can agree with many kids would prefer it over the Touch. My thought however is the cost associated with producing several colors would drive the price up.
My initial thought was it would be a game tablet, but the App market proves that, that is already covered well. The demographics for an ereader are women and I don't think the Ipad does well in that department. So to push the ibook sales it would make sense to target an Ipad for the female demographic.
If that's it, you still can't read it outdoors so-FAIL.
On the other hand Power Support will be very happy.
You probably never used an iPad so far. I use my iPad outdoors all the time particularly for hiking and motor biking, where I use different offline GPS navigation software. For just this usage my iPad has become absolutely invaluable to me. Ever since I got these Navi apps on my iOS devices, my Garmin's have become dust collectors
.
Where I have to admit, that reading books in the glaring sun, is a bit off a limitation. But apart from a few people who desperately want to get skin cancer nobody I know does that.
The whole talk about the iPad can't be used outdoors is utter BS.

Sorry to correct you, but before you can render any 3D Object on a computer, you have to design it first. You ought to try out this some time. Use Cinema 4D or Maya. There are trial versions of this absolutely stunning Software packages.
Hey TS, do you have a point down for the following on your list of troll claims:
"Holding out for that one thing Apple is unlikely to release but I do want it and I will buy it the moment it comes out. So I am not a troll, 'cos I will buy something Apple. But until that one thing releases, everything Apple does sucks so I will constantly berate all their offerings".
Case in point - iSheldon basically wants Apple to release a Kindle, which he will buy in an instant.

Besides the headphone jack, according to cydia blog, some other parts are also leaked:
iPad Mini Power Button
iPad Mini LCD display screen,

Problem? New size? New buyers? OMG fail.
What a horrible concept to have a consistent UI that users and developers can easily work with¡

Give that man a cigar.

The last time people said that, the iPad was announced. And where it is now...

I'm with TS, it'll never happen. Ridiculous concept, Apple would never be so daft.

Apart from that: this could be to iPad what iPod nano was to iPod: huge.
