I have plenty more if you'd like We've shot a bunch on 5 or 10 iPhone 5's at work, all with the same results. Nobody's iPhone 4S in our group is that bad (4 or 5 of those tested). As far as the 5's purple flare - it's not in every shot, but it's in enough that we noticed it. I'm back on my 4S now and don't have any purple haze issues. Here's another sun flare shot on my 4S from yesterday:
I prefer the natural yellow-orangish flare, as opposed to the purple. I don't mind normal light haze, but when someone's face is partially purple in my photos and the nearby lighting is white, it just doesn't look right. I gave up on the 5 and went back to the 4S...I'll wait until they spray the 5 with a UV coating or something and fix the weird purple color.
Here's a photo from my 5, where I deliberately induced flare:-
Here's the same scene where I adjusted the angle of the phone by a few degres:-
Pictures were cropped, there has been no other post processing.

If that was purple, it would not look right. White/yellow/orange haze/flare looks right. Purple looks like Barney

This is exactly what I was talking about in my previous post.
Even though you adjusted the camera angle the TRACES of the purplish effect are still visible in the upper left corner of the second picture.
If you increase the saturation you will see it more clearly.
