Advanced software helps iPad mini ignore unintended touches near bezel

I'm quite sure developers shouldn't have to.

If it works the way Apple says it does, then you won't have to worry about it.

Let's see. I'm reading it as: "You know that nice little 'tap the side of the screen to flip the page' thing you've always been able to do when reading an eBook? You can't do that anymore. At least, not on the iPad mini."

Is there documentation as to the process by which this decision is made? Seems that they could have easily avoided this problem by having a wider bezel.

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill here. Why don't you wait until you get to the Apple store and play with it before you assume the worst?

By that reasoning you also shouldn't have commented that it wouldn't work until you tried it.  Especially given that the text explicitly stated it would work fine.

If you HAD tried it on the app then you can figure out some simple heuristics where you can both still tap on the edge and ignore many of the more common spurious hits.

Likewise, how do not know how the 44x44 point HIG recommendation works if you are a dev and have an iPad and could literally see what a 44 point target would look like on the new mini?  Because you never bothered to try it.

You're right. I'll reserve final judgement until then.

Are you deleting my posts because I called you out?  Because this is twice where my posts disappeared.

If so then this is clearly an overstepping of mod powers.

    One more time:

He is not a dev and as near as I can tell doesn't even own an iPad.

This statement was made before you finally answered the very basic question of whether or not you even had an iPad after you constantly asked for examples and then proceeded to never look at them.

If it doesn't violate forum rules then why do you get to delete this post?

What I've found on all my iPads, and I've never experienced on my iPhones because of the different use patterns, is that if I tap on something that was a mistake, and I realize it before I lift my finger, and so hold my finger on it for a couple of seconds, or so, or s,ide my finger off, usually, it doesn't register the tap.

This seems akin to the scrolling action, where you can touch an area that's a selection of any kind, such as something in a list that you're scrolling, or a link on a page, etc.you can touch your finger right one one of those without enabling the selection action if you move your finger to expand, or shrink, the page, or again, scroll, or move the screen around, as in maps, etc.

So whatever apple did here must be similar to that. It isn't, therefor, something that hasn't already been done. This is just a special case. I seen no need for skepticism until we have one in our hands. Also, I didn't read any problem about this from the people who did the hands on after the presentation.

Now. One more time: do not say I am not a developer. Do not say I do not own an iPad.

I have not said it once after you said that you had an iPad or after you claimed to be a dev.  You were treating it as some sort of odd game where you wouldn't answer a straight question.  If i missed an earlier post then you could have simply stated that.

Belittle you?  Please, you belittle forum posters on a daily basis with far harsher criticisms.

Do not say you are a dev or have an iPad?  Or what?

As near as I can tell you are not a developer and you do not own an iPad.  Nothing you've posted indicates to me that you are a dev.  Nothing you've posted indicates to me you have an iPad or at least refuse to use it to verify your outlandish claims.

It is clearly relevant when you assert that something won't work for developers if you don't have a comparable device to try it on or have not developed for iOS yourself.  It calls into question the very basis of your assertion.

Either way...you have deleted posts not because they violate forum rules but because they call you out.  If they violate forum rules then since YOU are involved you should punt it to another mod to decide whether or not it is abusive and whether or not to delete and assign points or a ban.

In your direct replay to the post where I said it, you claimed exactly this. It's right on this page, barely over an hour ago. Talk about your revisionist history.

Yes, because you deleted the original.   I wanted to see if you were deleted it and you did.  If there is a deletion history then it will be clear that you deleted the original before you made your statement.

Wait, let me guess.  You deleted the report I submitted as well.

Nope! And since there is a deletion history, it's quite apparent that nothing has been deleted since I stated it.

I really don't think we can do that. image

Calm down. My team got a first down and you responded by pushing one of my players onto the field and claiming 'extra men'.
