God I hope not, I'd loose all respect for Apple if they went to Detroit. They, they being Apple and Foxconn, would be far better off looking towards smaller cities across America where people are still willing to work and don't have the need to support reckless unions.

Unions have their place but some get out of control, the UAW is a prime example of a Union that is out of control, corrupt and frankly not operating in the best interests of the people that it is supposedly protecting.
Bad management doesn't really come into this discussion. Hell even Apple has suffered through some really significant management blunders. The problem with going to Detroit is that you end up supporting a culture that isn't conducive to manufacturing in the USA. Frankly the area hasn't suffered enough to break the mindset of the Union workers there.

Both the unions and automakers have changed dramatically in the last few years. There are actually now two classes of auto workers, long term employees with higher benefits and pay, and those that have been hired in the last few years who have lower pay and benefits and different work rules. This is no longer a stagnant ecosystem and attitudes have changed on both sides dramatically so they could survive.

Why does no one assume that Terry Gou and Tim Cook know what they're doing, out of all the global electronics manufacturing impresarios that are out there? Do the armchair advisors here imagine that Foxconn and Apple would locate somewhere without doing labor studies?
So it begins. First, you all bicker about not getting them made in the US, now it is in place, you all bicker about WHERE it is in the US. Accept it wherever it is. Be grateful.
