I'd also like to see Apple do away with this "region" nonsense and harmonise to a global iTunes and App Store.
That unfortunately is not something Apple can do, unless they start becoming content owners which seems to be the one area of entertainment they are not going to become. At best we can hope to have Apple influence Disney and all their subsidiaries to license their content worldwide and be available within a timeframe that isn't an archaic throwback to VHS rentals (This time I'm linking to a Frédéric Filloux article on Gassée's Monday Note site: http://www.mondaynote.com/2012/11/25/the-release-windows-archaism/)
Of course Tim Cook said it would be an existing Mac line that was to be built in the US. But about the rest of it? Who knows. Though I can't imagine Apple would be stupid enough to build a TV with just a power cord and noting else.
Even if we didn't have Cook specifically stating a current Mac line will be assembled in the US it doesn't add any credibility to the Apple HDTV rumour. Frankly, I hope they do make a complete line (as noted above) but I just don't see it happening (also noted above).
Apple will probably not make a full fledged TV, it will just be new, larger thunderbolt displays. The Apple TV will then sport a thunderbolt port to connect to them.
OK. Care to explain why my 5 year old iMac is not obsolete, but my 2 year old Apple Television will be? Because that's his argument as to why Apple won't make a TV. And I believe it's a flawed argument. You think Apple isn't aware a TV should last you longer than 2 years?

I own an Apple TV. It's an iMac. Got rid of my TV. Got rid of my cable sub. Works great. Looks great.
Apple might make a TV but, in fact, it will be a computer in sheep's clothing. Like the iMac. Apple makes computers and only computers because that's what it loves. Computers. That's Apple's lust and heart's blood and mission in life. It also knows people have learned rightfully to hate computers. So it disguises computers as phones and walkmans and maybe TVs.
Maybe. Apple's learned it is not enough to disguise the computer or even to make it damn pretty: Apple knows it also needs a firehose of highly appealing content. Content that's relatively cheap and relatively exclusive. No buck a tune, no iPod. No buck an app, no iPhone. And no buck a show, no iPhlix.

What do you make of this then? http://www.cultofmac.com/204829/could-tim-cooks-new-made-in-usa-mac-actually-be-an-apple-tv-rumor/

Funny how Moore's law hasn't made my 5 year old iMac obsolete, and that runs a full desktop OS.
They'll make a TV, and you'll gobble it up.
Um, you need to educate yourself on Moore's Law.

Nah, when Apple usually says stuff like this they are being sincere. My guess is Mac Pro.

*shudder* But you're right. And it'll be a piece of cake to get purchased shows down to that price. Just you watch.
Pun intended, but not when I typed it.
