I used to have an Android device. Man, that was unreliable. I was astonished by the poor battery life but didn't have a good comparison. Now I know it was weak to begin with. And build quality. Android phone owners I know like to point out the best about their gadget. There's a lot to love, really, but then, they're like, oh, yeah, can't upgrade to the latest. Only such and such cores. No custom ROM for my device to accomodate this or that from my carrier. Blah, blah. A lot more unpredictable, IMO. Sure, Nexus, Kindle, etc, but there's always a gotcha somewhere during your ownership of that device.
I'm just puzzled that you could have less confidence in Apple's trajectory than anyone else's. You might even disagree with where they're going but you can't really say that it's unreliable. To each their own.
PS. I know you could say nice things about Apple as well since you've got so many iOS (and OS X) devices. That's cool. I think it's good to have the gains of whatever the best platforms are. No sense in being a fanboy or poking fun at people just because they choose this device or that. I'll say one thing - since you have both platforms you're in a good position to compare. Although it doesn't seem that anyone will allow you your opinion here.

No one company dominates in such a fashion, and this is how freedom, democracy and free markets is supposed to operate. Even in the heyday of Steve Jobs' resurgence I had a PC for gaming, until Windows became so unusable for gaming that I got an Xbox360 about a year ago.
For computer, I have a MacBook Air 13" 2012 entry-level and 27" ACD. MBA ~ best laptop ever made, ever. I have iPhone 5 and iPad 3 because I do need those for work. In terms of new devices the Xperia S and Nexus 7 are quite nice.
You see, people don't understand the recent developments with Android 4.x ~ the Xperia S was literally unusable on 2.3.7 until recently, as in, just a few months, ago, official carrier 4.0.4 came out for Xperia S. It's a totally different device ~ just like when iOS 4 came out and iPhone 3G and 3GS started to really sing.
Yes, things are unpredictable with Android but if you get Android 4.x with your device and just run stock it's actually quite okay. Not as rock-solid as iOS but certainly a lot more sophisticated. So Android 4.x is catering for new users, younger users, enthusiast users, and then "hardcore" users.
Not to butt in to your interesting argument with the other person, but this strikes me as biased and delusional (even with the "perhaps").
At best you are making some broad, sweeping assumptions here. I don't see any indications and haven't heard of a single rumour that would indicate an Android based tablet is even close to Apple in terms of workmanship, value for money, design, sales, or popularity. You could just as easily (and as accurately) assert that Apple is speeding up it's production to avoid having left over stock after the world ends. There is as much proof of that scenario as there is of your assumption.
The Nexus 7 matches the iPad mini or surpasses the iPad mini in workmanship, value for money, useability and sophistication. It's actually quite nice. The screen is vivid, 720p HD, excellent colour and viewing angle, and very nicely oleophobic (unlike iPad 3 which is not as oleophobic as iPad 1). The Nexus 7 is reasonably light, and the bevel and glass on the front sits very nicely with the "grippy" back. It has good build quality. Design wise, yes, it all follows the iPad lineage so it's just as nice. Sales-wise Android tablets are lagging iPad, but for smartphones one cannot doubt that Android is going toe-to-toe with iPhone even if you just think about Android mid-to-high-end smartphones. Then Nexus 7 with Android 4.2 ~ this is arguably one of the most sophisticated mobile/tablet operating systems out there. It doesn't have the most sophisticated apps (yet) compared to iPad 3 and 4 which is of course stellar, but if you are talking 7", Nexus 7 is definitely a real contender. No assumptions need to be made, no fanciful rumours need to be entertained ~ just play with one for a few days that has Android 4.2 on it. I guarantee after 20 hours with it any average mobile user will "get" the potential of Android.

I don't expect Apple to go to a six-month release schedule, however Apple is transitioning to a shorter and more disruptive release schedule that will put the competition off of planning on predicting Apple's next moves.
As for your complaining about having to use an iPad 2 for several more months... At least it's STILL a currently sold iPad model. My main computer is an Intel based MBP that is beginning it's 7th years of use.
So are some of those rumored supplier order cuts reflecting the shift to the new product? The display would be the logical shift for one.
An full size iPad in the form factor (thinness) of the mini would be an auto-buy for me. I like my three but a lower weight would be appreciated.
There's a lot to love in the full sized iPad, but I'm leaning toward an iPad mini due to the weight factor alone. The new in-cell laminating of the touch-display allows for greater brightness, along with halving the number of illumination units, may allow the next gen 10" iPad to lose some battery weight and thin down a bit as well.
