I'd be totally fine with this and lead the charge to cheer it on except for the fact that Yahoo! Weather is hopelessly incorrect, both in iOS and the Dashboard. I can only assume this inaccuracy extends to the rest of its services, so it'd be great if they could fix that sometime.
That's a pretty good description... for now. But I think changes may be afoot.
Agreed. The question is where will Yahoo be in a year or two from now?
It actually might make sense for Apple to make their maps available through Yahoo. Yahoo maps suck and Apple needs a website to launch its web based maps. They should make a cool app for Flikr users to geocode their pictures and add points of interest to Apple maps. An iOS device may be the best way to view a map, but a web interface is better for entering data and using pictures as the input would be a great way to find out where people do things.
I've tried Bing. Maybe it's bad luck, but I never seem to get a decent result. I give Bing a serious try about every year and so far its been meh.
Google is free and gives me the best results. Why not use it?
Hmm...I didn't know there were pay search engines. At least I've never used one. Anyway, anyone who has an iOS device can search google all they want so I don't see what the issue is.
I can remember, not too long ago, when Apple was over...
I agree, but Apple turning things around isn't really the norm (1 in a million), I don't see it happening again with 'Yahoo', companies that where around for a lot longer & were a bigger deal in their own industry have fallen & never recovered.
people all over the net talk about how much they loved their nokia phones, yet their sales are in the toilet.
Myspace is being overhauled, but will it make it back?, what if they offered iOS integration?.

So so true!!!, haha, in Australia, Yahoo weather isn't even close sometimes, its easier for us to go to the bureau of meteorology & check there.
I see this as bad news and believe it is a main reason we can not replace yahoos weather widget with one from a different weather app. It's prime real-estate, the notification center, and apple wants to sign exclusive deals with high paying clients.
Wow, here's hoping the Apple-Google feud doesn't result in Yahoo being the exclusive search provider of the iPhone... The weather app is a big enough turd.
god I hate the YouTube app now. Every time I pull a video up I have to wait 5 seconds to skip an ad. I also hate that there's no volume controls on screen, nor the ability to go back or forward 30 seconds.
I've honestly never gotten an ad on the YouTube app - maybe it's a US only thing? Or maybe you need to sign into your gmail account to get rid of ads?
In terms of volume controls, there are 2 buttons on the edge of your phone you can use, and you can go back or forward by dragging the playhead underneath the video. Really, onscreen volume controls are unnecessary, and dedicated buttons to skip forward and back 30 seconds would also be pretty superfluous.

True. I keep trying to like it, too. Have you tried the bingiton site?

Odd. I've never noticed it being that off. Use it daily. Y! pulls their data from The Weather Channel, so I would think the issue would be with them. Have you noticed differences comparing the two? I just did and a degree off though the hourly is the same.

I've noticed far greater differences between Yahoo! and what I know my local weather to be and the latter and WeatherUnderground, for example.
Yahoo! can be up to ten degrees off the current temperature, and it consistently puts weather events too far out (if they even happen at all). WUnderground is rarely off by more than 2-3 degrees (which is perfectly understandable) and is better at predicting intensity and type of weather, I've found.

If you have never got an ad on the YouTube app, you either don't use it very often or have not updated your app from the original iOS app from Apple. In the UK we get the ads on more videos than not.
The majority didn't mind Google's search monopolization because it was the best by far. Now with Google shoving their other services in our faces, and the search results being increasingly eclipsed by sponsored results...
The prospect of Yahoo iOS makes me cautiously pessimistic, given Yahoo's habit of letting core tech stagnate. Plus the whole flickr thing.
They might have a few services decent enough for Apple to pull raw data, but as a whole I think their organization is as outdated as the 'web portal' concept they cling to.

Pay search engines are Lexis-Nexis and other stuff primarily used by certain professional industries. Journalism, medicine, etc.

A five second wait isn't the worst thing in the world, considering the quality service YouTube provides. And especially compared to the alternatives...

Doesn't surprise me. Hotmail also isn't particularly secure, so myself and everyone I know switched to Gmail. I'd rather have targeted ads then have my Hotmail account hacked and spam all my contacts (has happened to me, my wife, and many other people I know - interestingly I've never had issues with viruses or any other accounts being compromised, ever - just Hotmail).
Microsoft in general is just terrible. Bad OS, bad services, bad software, and too expensive. Best computing-related decision I ever made was purging all my PCs of Windows and installing Linux OSes...

Yeah. I keep trying to use Yahoo. But I always end up going back to the goog.
yahoo knows "what time it is". Either they're going to make some changes, or they're going to go down for the count.

I agree. They overlap in eMail but other than that, Yahoo is a perfect fit to boost Apple's Web Services and Yahoo has solid technology.
At $26 Billion, Yahoo is not cheap and it would take time for Apple to fully integrate all their services.
I suspect Apple will continue and augment the partnership instead of buying Yahoo.

I am waiting for this to happen! I love Yahoo to be part of Apple. Apple should own a search engine.

Cue jokes about the Apple Search inclusion approval process.

To be fair Bing is nowhere near as dangerous as Yandex. Not even in the same league.
