I'm still using iTunes 9 because of its flexibility - especially being able to scale the artwork in list view as large as I want (and the album names are underneath the artwork instead of to the side). It's much more attractive. Fortunately, I don't need the features of version 10 or 11.

Not for me, it stays where I left it.

If I do the very same thing, but with the Sidebar hidden, I end up exactly where I was before.  Can someone try this and confirm it's a bug?

Nothing moves, the views stays the same, when I do this regardless of whether the sidebar was visible or not.

Except that basically all applications do this. I just tried dragging a photo onto the Preview dock icon, the a text files onto a text editor, then a presentation onto Keynote.

Can you give me some examples where this is not happening?

Aha! That was it.  I always included in my Album names, [Disc 1] and [Disc 2] because it helped when browsing.  Now that I've removed it, it works!

    Thanks, websnap.

Hmmm.  This is frustrating. Thanks for that.  Would you mind telling me in what Sort Order you're in when in Songs view?

This happens to me too!  But I see that noirdesir has replied to both of us that it doesn't happen to him.  Are you in Songs view when it happens? Can you tell me what Sort Order you are in?

The main thing about itunes 11 for me was a removal of the DJ/random play. I find it so cumbersome to work around that with v11 that my main machine is still running v10, and will probably keeping running v10 only until I'm forced to upgrade for compatibility with some new HW I want to use.

Or at least have block party shuffle mode...  Allow us to shuffle a playlist, but play all songs grouped by same artist (album or other criteria).

The only thing that bugged me (and they probably didn't fix it) is the "Album View - Sort by Date" issue. Where Sgt. Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour are not displayed in the correct release order (both 1967)   image

I wish Apple would get over their fetish with album art and Cover Flow. I wouldn't care if I never saw the stupid and often pretentious graphics again. This also goes for Netflix, where they seem to think all their customers are illiterate, and only want to tap on pretty pictures (which take 50x longer to download) rather than a list of titles, which are far more memory-efficient. Waiting for pictures of titles I will never watch to load, which then cause the app to crash because it ran out of memory, is really damn annoying. Not to mention having to scroll through the stupid icons, which lazily load, again slowing things down and causing more memory pressure. The written word has served humans quite well for the last few thousand years, precisely because it's so efficient. Use it.

    From the article:

"Release notes for the software state that users can now see their album artwork while in Songs View with iTunes 11.0.3."

    How do I activate this?

Go to View>View Options, then check Show Artwork at the top of panel.

This is how i used to do it too. I preferred this. It was the only place where I used and liked cover flow. I wish they'd put this back. I care about seeing the art clearly with the song list. An album at a time in the main view. Not a cluttered pile of albums. I don't use the tag system to organize because it fails and you never know what tags are inconsistent (in database terms). I use manually created playlists and playlist folders because it's the only way to have real control and organization. They've made changes to iTunes that assume tags are 100% reliable when they are actually far from it. Manual playlists aren't ever what the focus was but it should always have been. Now they're making users of playlists even more annoyed.

But a picture is worth a thousand words.

No, in iTunes 11.0.3 you can no longer click on the artwork to get a separate window. It just makes the miniplayer bigger.

It's the same with the Movies section. If I'm in the movies section, in the Rented tab, with a description open, and I click away to the music section to check on something, when I come back to the movies section everything is reset. It's not in the rented tab any more and when I switch it to the rented tab the description has been closed.

With all the effort Apple put in to making apps keep their state when you quit them (which is great), iTunes doesn't even keep it's state switching from area to area.

Damn. I guess mini-player is such a big hit nobody want to bother with big cover art anymore?
