I think Apple blew it by not opening up the App Store to Apple TV this year. A casual gaming console could have taken market share away from Nintnedo, XBOX and Playstation.

That would be a good question if his name was Leroy James.

Microsoft has almost no market share.

Apple is the enemy number 1 of all those companies... . . .

There's only one way for Apple to win the long term game and became immune to these punches:

    How does ? fight back?

    1. ?- Do everything you can to build a search engine

    4. Global Apple.com with free shipping.

    5. Different iPhone lines with different sizes, even if only premium-priced.

    6. Sell at cost (or less) your hardware to schools around the word.

    8. More focus on the current software.

At least you're thinking, bud. No one but Apple has the answers but I do think Apple may be doing some of what you suggest.

point: Apple is fighting, and I don't mean in the courts. Apple plugs along, reeking profits with a planning focus that would tire a Buddha and then, Wham! it takes off  on another path, a road not taken and the rest, like hungry puppies, follow in Apple's foot steps. Problem is, them pups are slowly starving. . . Remember the iPod (as in alamo) Apple's going to iPod this whole sector of the technoverse or my name's not Surely.

point: Apple is not their enemy, not the enemy of the other companies. Apple is their guide, sage, sentient governor of grand picture. Without Apple their seance around new ideas would close, the blind would crater and cheap and broken would rule our world. If Apple dropped dead tomorrow- within  two years the rabble flight to the bottom in cost and build would destroy innovation as copycatting each other and attempting cheap tricks to win audience appreciation rewards ($) would destroy the industry.

point: Your # 1 & 4 make sense to me. I would love to see Apple go into search. All the other search engines are terrible and are only going to get worse. Advert sites make serious search difficult on many topics. Apple would do it well, design the page to separate sellers from serious articles. Google would be on the dole in no  time.

But free shipping is out. I like the idea of global sell, but .... well, interesting.

Your concerns or point on software focus is very much in doubt as  Apple is on top of this. It is just so secretive. Look at how Facsimile Sam, the Japanese, Google et al are jumping on the smart-watch bandwagon. The trick is false leaking, sending the oppo down the rabbit hole. Let 'em waste their resources. Meanwhile, back at the ranch . . .

. . . Ives and Cokkie look like nice little fellows, kind of heart, cuddly (the not so skinny one), serious, both but especially (the not so cute one);  but I bet they'd toss their grannies from the cliffs if the dear biddies got in their way. Watch the lips, the curl, the mono smile, check the eyes- for there lurks the truth- them apples have more sour than the sugar we see on stage. Remember the Apple scene in Disney's first foray into full feature animation. There is your Cook, out stretched hand with Apple. Be proud, be safe, be glad he's on your side while, "Google and its whore* doth tremble".

*(And I mean this in the nicest way.)

    1.  Do everything you can to build a search engine and use it as default on your devices and available cross platform, it will hurt google a lot. Invest a lot, create chaos, risk billions on it. Money on a safe somewhere is nothing. If used, it becomes an opportunity.

    2.  Do a "google" with Microsoft and Android, put your services there and profit from those ecosystems. It doesn't have to be everything, but enough to profit and "lock" users (example, itunes ecosystem on android and windows 8/xBox, even port safari).

    3. xCode for Windows and/or Linux. Many devs as possible. How many thousands of young Devs go to android first because they don't have/don't want/cannot afford a Mac?

    4. Global Apple.com with free shipping. Sell every sort of ? stuff from your main site. Global iTunes ecosystem, not "US" or "UK" store, everything global.

    5. Different iPhone lines with different sizes, even if only premium-priced.

    6. Sell at cost (or less) your hardware to schools around the word, the most important thing. Better education, great investment, long-term profit.

    7. Kill Microsoft office and other standards by aggressively competing with them. It doesn't have to be better, it needs to break the monopoly.

    8. More focus on the current software.

    9. Create iBank.

I think Apple has a great game plan if what I hope is happening is actually taking place, and that is; building technology that others can't get. Such as custom processors with design/features that would take a couple years to duplicate, which by then, you have the next iteration. Battery technology that puts your products in a league others won't be able to obtain over the next 1-3 years. Just two examples of many. If you can stay far enough ahead of competition, they wither away.

With that said, there will always be a market for feature phones and even the feature smart phone which is most of the Android market. Unlike the iPod and iPad, there are tens of millions of people that just want a phone to talk and text, occasionally take a picture, and maybe driving directions. For those, Android will always fill that need for a price just above feature phones, but with larger, easier to read displays. I don't think Apple will reach that far down to grab those users.

    IMHO

But imagine the jump if it becomes the default. How much market share will google lose?

I share your frustration pedromartins. I think the climate would be a lot different were there not a constant propaganda attack against Apple:

-The WSJ is bending over backwards trying to slam Apple. One of many examples is the ridiculous article where google has more "enterprise" value then Apple.. IF you take away their cash holdings, and forget the fact that Apple is way more profitable than google and still growing those enormous profits.

-The NYT dragged Apple through the mud with completely misleading stories about so-called worker abuse, when in actuality Apple is the clear leader in that area and has been for a long time.

-Bloomberg can't stop gushing about "samsung innovation," and never hesitates to paint Apple in a bad light.

-Not to mention the flood of paid trolls on internet forums, including, *ahem* this one..

I'm not sure what Apple can do about this, other than pay them off as I'm sure their competitors are all doing. The surprising thing to me is how ineffective they have been. It doesn't seem to be stopping Apple customers.

I like your point number 1.

I'm sure I'm not the first one to say this, but an eventual buyout of Yahoo! by Apple would be awesome. I think Apple is capable of coming up with a great search engine, but could really use the data, manpower, and connections that would be required to make a strong effort into the search market. Their cultures are relatively similar, and seem to be getting more similar as time goes on (they seem to like iPhones a whole lot more now). There would be no anti trust issues, as there are bing and google. I don't think it's a coincidence we haven't seen Apple change the name of Spotlight to iSearch.. It makes a lot of sense and I hope it happens. I'm guessing/hoping we'll see it in a couple years, during Apple's next big software push.

All Apple has to do in iOS7 is make Bing the default search engine. 90% of people will never even notice or care and Google will suffer massively. Stick it to them Cook.

Out of touch? Is that why they take the majority of the profits of the smartphone industry as well as the tablet industry and is eroding the PC industry by creating products people want?

Also, that's pretty racist, sexist and age discriminatory of you to say just because a company is run by white, middle-aged men that they are out of touch. Thanks for the stereotype.

Dear Google: Apple already patented everything in their product. Good luck with that.

No, I do not have proof, but it's what they did with the iPhone and it's sure as shoot what they will continue to do.

It would be so interesting I wouldn't be able to contain myself and sell my iPhone out of pure excitement. Sorry, some of us are iPhone and Google fans all at the same time. Didn't get the memo I had to hate one of them because Jobs and Schmidt got into a slap fight a few years ago. Please don't let Android's 75%+ market share make that heart so cold and bitter guys, there's plenty of great Google services on the iPhone. In fact, we get almost 90% of Google's features including their awesome Google Now search.

If you truly find the Bing apps and services on iPhone superior to Google's offerings i'm sure I could find a few psychiatrists that will help bring out the repressed memories of where Larry Page touched you.

Feel free to enlighten me, but however they phrased it, they clearly had an anti apple agenda.

Edit: I bet Murdoch is pissed about all the money he lost with The Daily.

Out of touch, as in sold out all it's iPod Touches?

Or made the entire front face of it's smartphone touch (well, except for the home button), so it is out of real estate that can be touch sensitive on the phone?

I simply refuse to believe that you are not joking. You sound really clever....
