Ahahhahahah, Apple got burned.
So true...so true..
But that's if Apple's around for that long. I predict that Apple will probably go bankrupt in a couple years. The current processors are a joke and the G5 is still a ways off.
That is pretty much the specs for the G5. The G7 will probaly have a 160 GB HD. And at least 512 mb of ram.

What ARE you smoking, and can I have some?
G7 will be two-three years from now, if the "G" naming thing holds up...
Those are TODAY's specs there, chief. I give that a 1.6% chance of actually happening. If those are the G7, there will not have been a G6 because APPLE would be Chapter-11. Say Goodnight, Dick.
we only use like20%of the capability of our brain, far less for some, so i propose a helmate that when on the head would harness the unused portion of the brain for prosessing power and storage

This is proposterous. I just wanted to use that word.
Seriously the reason why we only "use" 10 % of our brain is because the other 90 % is taken up by cells that nourish or physically support the neuron.
That statement is saying the glass is half full if those cells could be utilized in the space they take up. More clearly, the statement exemplifies the idea that you are allowed to remove those support cells and replace them with neurons. Take those away, and the neurons will die.
So what your proposing is that we re-engineer the brain?

Well... it IS due for an upgrade. A few million years is a little too long in the pipleline, IMHO. Let's just hope it's not on the same cycle as Apple hardware updates...
Then we'd hear about man-brain 2, introduced today, estimated shipping mid April, actual ship date July. By that time the gorillas and baboons will have already overtaken us.

I'm afraid you got it backwards. It's not us developing slowly, it's those damn lazy silicium atoms realizing after billions of years that they should catch up with evolution. Hence the recent appearance of the Chip. But they're only trying to make up for what they neglected to do since the universe was born...

Thanks for bumping it again.
(I know this is technically bumping it, but since the last reply was made so recently, it'll have little or no effect)
-walloo..i guess this means another useless bump.
::no more writing unless on topic?!

How very silly.

No kidding. A thread that was bumped from 05-05-2002 to 02-25-2004 is still alive.
Mine was quickly killed. My poor poor thread. Boo Hoo.
It's all good.

I personally thought your addition was very relevant, IMHO.

Ya, written in the days of the mature G4 stages, when the Mirrored G4 was coming out...and everyone thought it was going to be the G5...surprise !

Just like they did at WoodStock '99 (was it?) Ahhh, all the apes taking over and burning us out of house and home.
Let's create us a mind, what in the nelly, control device. This can all be done with the G8, let's plan for that.
Just imagine computing in 4 million years...only if it increases at the rate at which it does today.

I would like to hear bets on what processor Apple will call the G6. I know it has been discussed elsewhere, but while we are all here...
