I agree, but you gotta admit they do the navigation part of maps far better than Apple in almost every way.
Since maps are really all about navigation, I'm personally finding it harder and harder to keep to my promise to myself to eschew everything Googley. It's a choice between using a really good product by an evil, nasty corporation that doesn't have your best interests at heart or using a far lesser product from the nice guys.
It is a hard choice, even for those that hate Google.
Can anybody tell me how to enable the indoor navigation? I played around with the app for a while, but I could not figure out how to view indoor navigation, when a mall is selected for example.
And yeah, "Indoor Navigation" is a Google euphemism for "spying on you as you walk around the mall."
As if tracking your every online move isn't enough already.
Of course it is. . . until Apple begins offering indoor maps as early as next year. Then it's helpful.
Take a close look at angle of the building shadows: the black sign is the shadow cast by the Hollywood sign on the hillside. The satellite or plane that took the source photo is viewing the sign edge-on, so you don't see the sign, just the shadow.
Because Google Maps has such a limited 3D capability, it is difficult to determine what is happening... And it is not worth the effort/frustration to go through Google Earth.
Am I missing something or can Google Maps not keep your iDevice awake even when you're using navigation mode, and that goes for Android devices too, both my (previously owned) Nexus 7 and HTC One kept going into sleep mode. If you want to navigate, you have to go into settings and turn off the auto sleep mode, which is incredibly inconvenient.
So, don't use Apple Maps. Do you think anyone cares?
You can't expect Apple to have all this data and information after only a year, when it's taken Google over a decade to build its database. Apple's maps will get there, but it takes actual usage for it grow.
You stick with Google and give up your personal life... I'll stick with Apple and help them work to build a better alternative.
You apparently care.
Apple's refusal to let its users set other map apps as the default helper program is a problem. It's attempting to lock users in to a single solution, which isn't really proving to be a solution.
Apple isn't even trying to integrate other modes of transportation. They've given up from the get-go. That's a problem.
You seem to have an unhealthy loyalty to Apple and appear to believe that the company is your friend. It's not.
Companies aren't your friends. They're not looking to work with you and be your BFFs.

See how that works?
When I take walks around my neighbourhood I have no requirement for a mapping solution, as I know where my house is.
btw I just got an S4, the free Navigon software Samsung exploited in a dig at Apple maps, does not know where my house is, apparently I live in a black hole surrounded by dead end streets, which was not fixed when I updated the software.

Ha! It is! It's a vertical shot! That's great.
The first picture is a birds eye view (top dowb) and the black Hollywood looks to be the shadow of the sign.
The second photo is what the sign looks like in person looking at it dead on.
Can't find the gas station near my work
BUT apple maps did
I use apple first then yelp then google
What I would REALLY like
Is that it senses your travel direction and shows you
Next exit facilities w a button push or option button
What I do now is put in what I want and use yelp
It is helpful w google maps to show you
Apple maps I have to open a new search then go back to my directions
Ill try it along a hwy to ck this capability
OK, then ...
New iOS Google Maps Hollwood Sign from behind -- iPad 4 Retina Display
New iOS Google Earth Hollwood Sign from behind -- iPad 4 Retina Display
Apple Maps iOS 6 Hollwood Sign from behind -- iPad 2 Non-Retina Display
Apple Maps iOS 6 Hollwood Sign from behind Zoom Out Hybrid-- iPad 2 Non-Retina Display
There's roads and buildings showing at the top of the Google image. Don't see them in the Apple Maps one. :???:
The Apple image looks nicer if it's accurate.
Google talks about them here:

Keep Google spying apps off of your iOS devices.

You realise your post is pretty much the opposite of your handle right?
Glad to see Google is working hard on iOS apps.
They apparently still know where the money is.

Not a hard choice for me. Maps works flawlessly. The Apple Maps app, that is.

Remember this:-
It only makes headlines if it's Apple's failure, while Samsung enjoys the halo effect of Nobody Cares If Samsung Sucks.

From Post #17: "Great deals from your favorite brands with Google Offers".
They have to know where you are in the mall to spoonfeed you the ads they are selling to Finish Line and Great Clips as you walk through the mall.
