Retina mini after full size, so the mini doesn't canabalizes new iPad 5 again...for awhile
So you think Apple would rather people buy a Nexus 7 than the mini possibly cannibalize the full size iPad? At least in the latter scenario people are still buying an Apple device.

I bought the 2012 N7, it was ok for a few months, it got slower and slower, and became unuseable with 4.2.2, flashed 4.2.3 and it became worse, it got slower, and the screen began to display the issues described in the new N7.

You want a real shocker, look at the average used price of the damn thing,

I purchased an iPad Mini and the N7 sits, covered in dust.

They better bring in iPad a yet higher resolution display and retina to mini. <img alt="1smoking.gif" id="user_yui_3_10_0_1_1376483203790_1446" src="http://forums-files.appleinsider.com/images/smilies/1smoking.gif" style="line-height:1.231;" name="user_yui_3_10_0_1_1376483203790_1446">
If Apple purposely leaves retina off the mini this year just to protect the full size iPad they're nuts. Size matters. People that want a smaller sized tablet will either keep the current mini (if they own one) or go elsewhere. Plus when has Apple ever been afraid of cannibalization? Hello iPod mini, hello iPod nano, hello selling previous years iPhones at cheaper prices. I'm sure Apple would rather someone buy a retina mini than a nexus 7 or Kindle fire.

    See?

    Totally agree.

The Verge, and Topolosky in particular is much more concerned with their media image and with playing ball with their advertisers and promoters than they are in giving an honest review.  With them it's all about appearing to be the coolest website and going on late night talk shows.  That's why their writers are so superficial and also why their forums and the comments on their articles are such a mess.  Thousands of angry teenagers vying for their moment of "fame" on the "cool" site.  Barf.

This is the same guy who out up a post calling iOS 7 "simply confusing" like 15 minutes after WWDC keynote finished. And the same site that put up a post calling out Apple's use of the word "no's" (should have been noes) in the WWDC intro video. The Verge is so far up Google's ass it isn't even funny. They hate Apple because Apple refuses to give them the time of day and stroke their egos. The only reason Apple products get good reviews is because the products are that good and basically speak for themselves.

Typical offering from Google, HP, Dell, MS, & Samsung, cheap, mediocre HW and SW providing a subpar user experience. Don't these people have any pride?

I refuse to support any of these companies by purchasing sub-standard crap products. I'd rather do without than have anything from them.

Yet did those issues prevent Apple products from getting "stellar reviews"? The article claims that the nexus 7 is getting favorable treatment in the press despite users reporting various problems. Aren't apple products received similarly by the public?

Will people think the new MBA is junk a year from now because of those issue like what happened to the original N7? As for battery-issue for iPhone 4, my wife hasn't had one so can't comment on that. She's still using hers nowadays and enjoying it so clearly it's no junk like reviewers think of the original N7 a year after.

    "Amiga Syndrome" hehe. image

That made my morning.  The hardware story doesn't exactly fit, but the Amiga users were the exact same kind of rabid pompus weenies that today, drones on and on about Android.  I think Amiga users must have been the very first group that the term "fanboy" could rightly be applied to.

The difference being that, unlike the crapdroid, the Amiga was actually THAT GOOD! So please count me in with those rabid pompous weenies... though bear in mind that most of the Amiga fans later became Apple fans...

Even outside of the Verge's failings, most professional reviewers never give a 10/10 because they feel it makes them look like they aren't being critical.  They treat the extra point at the end as a sort of bonus point. It's pretty rare to see any product review get less than 6/10 regardless, so that would mean either that there are no really bad products out there, or the whole system is kind of skewed anyway.

Well you clearly didn't even read the whole article. Maybe you're bias to not-reading and just throwing-up your opinions.

The Verge gave the Chromebook Pixel a higher score than the Surface Pro. Nuff said.

This is just a stupid thing to say.  The iPad mini is already cannibalising the regular iPad share.

Apple doesn't break out the numbers but by most accounts, the mini is already more popular than the full sized iPad, but we don't even have to know those numbers to make the statement.  It's plainly obvious that the mini isn't taking away customers from alternative Android products, because their share and sales numbers have remained fairly constant or have grown at the same rate as the overall market.  So right from the start, whatever portion of the public is buying the mini is going to be almost the exact same portion that would have otherwise bought a full-sized iPad.

There might be a few people who would otherwise have been fooled into going for the Nexus or some other POS, but mostly the mini is an alternative product to the full-sized iPad and thus cannibalises the full sized iPad.

Mircosoft's Surface is the subject of a class action lawsuit claiming Microsoft lies. Not proof of course that they did.

Anyway, I wouldn't for a moment disagree that the iPad Mini is a better overall device than the Nexus 7. With that said the Nexus, even the old one, is certainly fit for purpose if all you want a tablet for is checking emails, browsing the web, general game play or a little light reading. I suspect that's all most users do with their tablets but it's just a guess.

The consumers can be divided into two quantum states. The Android buyers are those not willing to pay a premium price for Apple products. ( The premium price is whatever price Apple charges.) Since they know they are buying a cheap product they will not complain short comings as long as the device suit whatever needs they wanted. The media know these quantum states. Therefore they always praise a new Android product or Windows version as more reliable, more smoother, faster. The Apple products users are completely different. Some users will stick with iPhone 4 or iOS 5 without upgrading because Apple products are always good in the first generation. Switching between iOS and Android requires quantum transition. I don't think Apple should try it.

I know the Surface RT is a turd but I thought the Pro was actually a decent device.

However, the trend here in Germany is that anyone carrying Apple stuff is a "penny foolish fanboy". The "fanboy" part I thoroughly admit to. Penny-Foolish I am not(!)

So... I let them know that it "very well could be" that they need to have me take a look at their "far less expensive but capable (crap)" more often. My minimum visit fee is €20, with the average of a clean wipe and reinstall about €95,00. BTW: these people are immune to that old price trick, since for example, 99.99 is no where CLOSE to 100.00. Anyway, wipe and reinstall is the "preferred and recommended" advise straight from Google's forums. Quite similar I might add to Microsoft's over the years. Why would silly Moi second guess Google???

Long story short: I get paid close to €200.00/year from people on Android devices. I make squat on iOS devices (set it and forget it).

So truthfully, I really should be a Google fan for them skimping and pimping their devices at cost and allowing me to make some "play dough" for my Apple addiction.

As always... telling the truth... and just sayin'...image

So you're saying the trend in Germany is: "People clueless about electronics, don't know their *** from a hole in the ground...tell them to buy whatever is cheapest."

    Got it.

    You can't be serious.

Because you'd have to be a complete derp to not understand how the iPad mini canibalizes iPad sales.

    1. Previously the only way to get an iPad of any kind, was to get an iPad.

    2. Apple introduces iPad mini...which is every bit an iPad....but cheaper (not to mention pretty damn slick looking)

    3. Would-be iPad buyers get an iPad mini instead of an iPad.

    Done.
