Forget the colors, I think it's important for Apple to just get a fifth-generation iPad out-the-door. With the unveiling of the iPhone 5s and 5c, it's likely the fifth-gen iPad will get an A7X with the M7 coprocessor, perhaps a doubling of RAM but keeping the SSD drives maxing out at 128 GB, along with the other hardware goodies in the new iPhone 5s.
Frankly, I was surprised, perhaps mostly disappointed that towards the end of yesterday's iPhone Event they didn't pull out the old "and one more thing" trick to announce a similarly updated fifth-gen iPad. Logically, I can understand that Apple's supply chain is going to be stretched thin-and-busy cranking out new iPhone 5s/5c units over the next few weeks... #sigh#sadface I don't really need a new iPhone, but I do need a new iPad. My first-gen iPad is now becoming largely useless, short of email, texting in Messages, or web-browsing (as long as I don't try to have too many tabs open) and it crashes frequently. Thus, my eagerness for a fifth-gen iPad.
P.S. I'm not going to buy a fourth-gen iPad when I know that a new one is "around the corner", that they have only a 2-3 year lifespan, and that the fourth-gen iPad is already one year old (thus one year closer towards obsolescence).
Exactly the same boat on the iPad. My first gen currently does 90% of my computing, grading, presentations for classes, etc etc. and it is VERY long in the tooth. A 64 bit A7 or A7x would do so much to ease my work load I am practically foaming at the mouth waiting for this thing. Dear god get it here now!

I would say that a "less expensive" iPad mini only makes sense if the one they are debuting soon is actually more expensive than the current one, which seems like a ridiculous proposition. They have "gone retina" on almost their entire product line without increasing prices, why would a retina mini cost more? And if it stays the same price as expected, it's currently one of the cheapest, best mobile computers you can buy.
Just over $320 is a ridiculously low price already for what it is. Unless they are going to flood the market with cheap (under $100) plastic iPads I don't see the point, and anyway if they did that, why not make cheap regular sized iPads as well?
Apple management first priority is to keep it profit margin! So you either get a next generation retina with no technological improvements inside or you pay more and get the state of the art! I more then willing to pay another $200-$300 to get everything that Apple can develop and package inside the next generation iPad Mini Retina.
My desire is for it to have in the upcoming iPad Mini Reitna - A7X, M7, 4GB RAM, IGZO display, 802.11 ac, dual flash back camera, option for 128GB storage! So without the LTE - I am looking at a 128GB model to be around the $800!
I find that curious, I was expecting the Retina iPad 2 mini to incorporate the A6X from the iPad 4 as a differentiator to the A7X expected in the iPad 5 as its supposed to be a more affordable lower-end variation of the full-size iPad. The A6X already does a fine job in the Retina iPad 4, why incorporate the newer more expensive chip? Not that I'm complaining...que sera, sera.
Also it does seem that come next year, Apple will be doing to the iPad range what its now doing to the iPhone, two tier mid and high-end offerings. iPads with standard resolution displays (to begin with, upgrading to Retina later) plastic housings and last generation SoC's for the mid-range aka the iPhone 5C and metal construction together with the latest premium components for the high-end. A good strategy I think, Apple still retains its premium image while offering a larger more affordable range of products. Just no plastic MacBook Airs please!
If you talk to people who use the iPad4; they want the iPad Mini Retina to have the state of the art inside. They don't want to buy another 9.7" tablet - too big for most business and high consumption users. Even my Realtor is going for the iPad Mini Retina and she can afford just about anything - $2,500 is nothing for her to spend on electronics!

NO, being able to buy new iPad 5s, or even iPad mini 2s for the kids for X-mas, is what's important for me
