Point is not we see here,
its actually what it really in the new iPhone.
It could be a piece of conceptual item in the test lab,
    so don't cheer yet.

Unfortunately people believe what they see in movies including the crooks... just saying.

    Now that was funny!! Thanks!

A fingerprint scanner hopefully brings along new functionality for passbook, secure NFC and more goodies.

Think they're already on to it.

Not to mention the fact that having HAL's voice on your phone would be the same as having a tag that identifies you as a senior citizen.

2001 is considered by all the "young-uns" (under 30 years old) to be a really boring old movie at this point.  You can get the 1080p version in the under ten bucks section on iTunes now.

Should be one of your favorite movies, since it's main moral theme is the secrecy, duplicity and soullessness of American technical bureaucracy.

Don't worry, the New York critics also missed that whole angle at the time it came out, and just complained that it was so soulless and boring. It was fascinating how Stanley and maybe Arthur slipped it in under everybody's noses, like when Dr. Floyd talks up the "ham" sandwiches on the way to see the Monolith.

Yep, slow and subtle, not for today's ADDicts.

Remember about a month or so ago, when the rumour was that the button would be convex in stead of concave (and everyone lost their mind thinking it was going to make the phone look like a nipple (or zit, ect...).... I beleive that it is actually the lens and we are looking at it, just way smaller than people expected. If that is the case, it could be using the lens as a sort of "fish-eye" to capture more image than the actual surface normally would.

Not a rumor, it was the well-connected Ming-Chi Kuo what said that.

While the part has some similar shapes to it like the round home button it's really hard to say that this is a FPS. As much as I want to see one just like the next guythis part doesn't look right. I'm no expert

I'm interested in learning if the iPod Touch will gain dactyloscopic sensing too. And what about the new iPads when they will be announced a month or two from now?

I don't think so, they'll have to update the models at the September event or make one solely for it and the new iPad 4th gen with the thinner side bezels. Plus iPod sales have decreased every year after 2010. They would only update it if there was something radical, asides this fingerprint or heat/temperature sensor or extra button, whatever it is. Which points to only one conclusion, 3D or IGZO Displays.

    The Scanner of course!    /s

Think of this part working more like a camera than a fax machine. You simply place your finger over it and the press of your thumb will activate the scanner (I would guess).

I am very sorry, but until Apple announces it, it's a rumour like all others. yes, he has a good track record, but he hasn't been perfect, and – more importantly – he doesn't represent Apple. Regardless, it still doesn't change my interpretation of his "rumour" as it still fits within his reporting.

I tend to agree, I should have used the ¡ or /s tag.

    Consider the analyst Kuo.

    Well-connected, well-respected y'know.

    But let us remember,

    That just last December,

It was IGZO, more IGZO, and now—zero.

I don't think so. The sensor is being folded onto the black square thing. Like this:

On the black thing you can see two transistor thingies, at the same time there are two small square cutouts on the back of the sensor. This means the sensor is likely to be folded onto the square thing to save space. Just my two cents :)

EDIT: sorry about my bad drawing skills ;)

If true, this would solve a big problem for me in picturing how it works, thank you very much. If true!

Edit: But on second reading, it wouldn't fold up primarily to save space, but to be the underlying circuitry for the button module. Again, if you're on the right track here.

So is the IGZO display technology no longer rumored to be a part of the iphone 5S?

It could be, it could not be as well. But due to Apple's recent works like iOS 7 and all the other products that they've been said to be working on, I think it isn't a possibility this year even though I said it was on another thread. The technology is very new. Take a look from a Sharp video uploaded on January 3, 2013. It would take at least a year or two to build manufacturing processes for the technology and hire the workers/train them to build the display. Which I believe will just be an IPS display like the one found on the iPhone 5, if not the same with with a tweaked color profile.

I haven't seen any mention of it from the usual suspects, only from IGZOmaniacs around here, myself not excluded, though I've only thought about posting such a suggestion. Ming-Chi Kuo has been curiously silent on the subject, making me suspect that he's been asked not to mention it ever again. Part of "doubling down on secrecy," don'tya know. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

Edit: I see darkdefender considers iOS 7 as part of the evidence for no IGZO this time around. That I wouldn't know about, but of course it could also explain Kuo's silence on the matter.

I think Apple has patented that as a stationary swipe.
