    Do you have inside knowledge of something?
    I see new channels popping up (Red Bull channel most recently) but I still see the same channel model as old TV. They're called apps now but the idea is still the same.
    I would just love to pay a fixed yearly amount through my iTunes account which would give me free access to the shows I want, regardless of which TV channel they originated from.
    Example:
    Myth Busters: Discovery
    Game of Thrones: HBO
    Walking Dead: AMC
    Sherlock: PBS

    I pay a fixed yearly amount and I have access to all shows current and previous from the list above. Let's assume APPLE TV gives us packages like
    10 series a year => $20
    30 series a year => $50
    etc.
    I watch the shows I want regardless of which studio they originated from.
    That would be breaking the old TV model apart.
    They may still very well do that, we're just not seeing it yet.

    What makes you think Apple can negotiate something like that? How many shows do you watch that you discovered while channel surfing? If everyone only watched the good shows all the others would cease to exist. Your 'new' model would put a great number of people out of work.

    I wonder how many people will actually pay for this.  Not me.

    Actually, of you subscribe to those Apple TV packages you will end up paying more that cable. Not the way to go indeed. Not to mention you will need an unlimited download internet package if you plan on cutting cable and stream everything.

    I watched the first 3 seasons of Downton Abbey on itunes this month (27 episodes) and I am already over 120g used. The way we watch TV at home we would need 500g to 1tb / month if we streamed everything.

    This!

    In the US, those data pipe providers(aka oligarchs) have a strangle hold.

    However, as talked many times in this forum, go to other(more sane?) countries, the pipe provider is a utility... companies compete to offer packages over that pipe, not let the fox guard the hen house.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again, everyone wants to unbundle the channels over the same network, when it's the network that needs to be unbundled.

    In the first Spider Man movie. Randy Savage (Macho Man) played Bonesaw McGraw when Spider Man first tests his powers. “Kick his spider ass, Bonesaw!”

    God, everybody knows this¡

    Nah, Apple would create something like iRadio, only for video content. Sort of like Netflix. You don't need traditional broadcast/cable TV to surf.

    Yep. See? It’s easy.

    They can also offer live feed channels or channels for free, supplemented by ads. Except instead of static ads, you’d see interactive video iAds that would make you want to see advertising.

    It’s Apple. You know, the company that got people to sell their songs for $0.99 and the company that destroyed Amazon’s eBook monopoly? That one.

    Zero.

    WOW. WHAT A TRAGEDY.

    Why would you hide the WWE. It may be low brow but it isn't porn.

    That not to mention is a big point. Until there is bandwidth available nation wide I don't even see video streaming catching on as a cable replacement. Plus that bandwidth needs to be reasonably priced.

    Exactly!????

    This also assumes that the local provider offers enough bandwidth to actually provide old performance for the streaming app.

    And that is bad how? Lets face it if your product doesn't sell then you should be out of business. as for the watchers, why should they underwrite shows that nobody is interested in?

    The thing is i have unlimited dowmloads for just $10/month more. So $40 + $10 = $50 / month for unlimited downloads. But i can only keep it has long as I have the TV plan. if I drop the Tv plan, the unlimited option will cost me $30 instead of $10.

    Earlier today an analyst wrote that Apple was preparing to move into CDN. Since I only saw one instance of the story, I guess the story did not gain any traction. Still, if Apple did begin to deliver its own content, it could begin to become a competitor to cable companies. This of course would be tricky since Apple would have to work with cable and telecommunication companies for the "last mile" connection.

    Songs were already $. 99, and being able to buy single songs existed for decades before Apple.

    And yes people losing their livelihood is tragic.
