Assuming there is some truth hidden away in Think Secret's report, isn't anyone, like me, much more interested in John Sculley's announcement?

I was never keen on Sculley, but given that he's supposedly announcing a new company and product, whilst Jobs is seemingly announcing something of limited interest, I know which I'm more intrigued about...

Perhaps I'm just up waaay too early..?

John Sculley helmed Apple as CEO from 1983 to 93. He is a huge figure in the company?s history. It was during his tenure that the look and the feel of the Macintosh was set. Every Mac head should know who he is!

Yes, he's a big figure in the company's history, especially since he sold the heart and soul of Apple to MS, free of charge. If you don't know the inside story, you should definitely pick up Apple Confidential by Owen Linsmayer(sp?).

Sculley is a scoundrel, a low-life dirt-bag. Apple is a but a shell of what it could have been if not for him. The ultimate irony is that if SJ had the confidence in himself early on, he never would have hired Sculley, and the Apple empire probably would be the only game in computing today.

Yah, tis true but like Belle says...what up with Sculley now? Anybody want to jump on the 'net and see what the old jackass has been up to lately? C'mon gang, everybody doing some searching ought to at least turn up some traces of the things he's been doing up until going into the new-company-business. Whose paths has he been crossing?

    Hmmmm....

I don't think it would help much. According to the article, it's a new company, and Sculley has invested in countless new technology start-ups.

I don't share the disdain for Sculley. Sculley made Apple big...really big. We have no idea where Jobs would have taken Apple...

NeXT was a failure as a brand name. Jobs couldn't sell it. What makes you think Jobs could have done better with Apple without having failed with NeXT first. It's sort of interesting. The brand Sculley created combined with the direction NeXT was headed is where we are now...and who knows what's going to happen.

Now Spindler on the other hand...Yick.

Amelio? He turned Apple around when it was heading the wrong direction...just in time for Jobs to take credit for it. That's not bad over-all...Amelio is a rescuer...He put NS back in the right direction (they've since turned back around in the wrong direction again.) He's probably know good as a permanent CEO though.

I don´t think so. If Jobs hadn´t been removed I think things could have been much worse. Sculley had visions that Jobs didn´t have (I still regard Newton as the most revolutionary product from Apple along with the MacOS GUI and actually nothing else, not even X, despite how much I love it)

Part of Apple is its fascinating history. 25 years with Jobs would have been boring and Jobs would not have learned what he did in his years of exile.

My guess is that it's a new Superdrive Powerbook. He gets to talk about how it's the first superdupercomputer to be able to complete the final master of a digital movie and burn it to DVD all while flying on an airplane or tanning on the beach in Fiji, and he gets to flaunt his new black shirt and pair of blue jeans. What better reason than _that_ for a press conference?

just search good 'ol eBay for the Newton. You'll find plenty of pictures. When you do look over the specs, keep in mind that the Newton came out in 1995(ish).

Put 3 of the rumord products together ( iVideo, a tablet, and a digital comera) and what do you get, a video conference solution.

    IVideo: Video conference software.

Digial Camera: Doubles as a Web Cam.

The Tablet: With iVideo, Air Port, and a Web Cam.

Pug the the camera into the back of your mac, start up iVideo, the person your going to conference with has the "Tablet", you connect with each other and start your conference.

I know that some of you are going to say why make a Digial Camera double as a Web Cam, why not make a dedicated Wem Cam or why not just use a 3rd party one. Well i was working with current rumors, just puting 2 and 2 together and come up with sumthing.

You are all in for a major disappointment.

This is not a media event where the press is invited to Cupertino. SJ is asking for a few interviews. Think Secret said it will not be anything big. It's fun to guess, but, pleeze, read the article.

Maybe SJ is announcing his retirement.

Actually I thought the same thing

If it shows to be true the long rumoured sequels to "Computer Wars I: Triumph of the Nerds"

"Computer Wars II: Clash of the Titans"

    must be true.

Ummm correct me if I'm wrong but did you not just get done saying 'it will not be anything big' and 'pleeze, read the article'?

How exactly does that fit with your final comment about SJ leaving Apple?

yea because there aren't enough of PDAs

there were many MP3 players out before the iPod yet Apple made the nicest one and brought everything together. digital camera market is dieing for a consumer oriented high quality digital camera that syncs easily, has good storage, is simple to use, and is a good all around value

True. There are a plethora of PDA's as I've pointed out. So it has to be unique and offer capabilities that the current ones don't.

The problem with a camera is that most ones I use today work pretty good (unlike MP3 players). And I wonder if Apple can compete especially in terms of value. If they price it like the original iPod, I'm not sure it'll fly. But then again, I'm still surprised to this day by the success of the iPod.

Guys, don't any of you have a sense of humor... oh I forgot, this is Appleinsider. SJ is NOT going to announce his retirement of course. He's gonna talk about things in general, where Apple is going and maybe even hint at some forthcoming products. Since he is not inviting the media to an "event", this amounts to nothing more than a chat. It's the Sculley thing that is most interesting methinks.

Well I've read several articles about Sculley's startups over the past couple of years and they're spread across the gamut...from an Israeili software firm (kind of a passive PUSH app) to a computer re-distribution plan. So you're correct Belle, the man's all over the board and unless you know his personal secretary there's no telling where he's been spending his time. Still, I'm wondering what kind of tech conventions he attends, keynotes and contributes toward.

    Just my .02...

*Jobs will NOT announce his retirement

    *It is NOT for a 10.1.5 release...he didn't do anything for 10.1.3, 10.1.4, etc.

*It is NOT a PowerBook update (though that is what I would want to see and yes I know there was just one, but I am in the market for one so that is why )

*It is NOT the digital device...he will wait until MWNY or something else where he has a bigger media audience.

    It COULD be:

    *iMac update

    *public Jaguar demo?

*Maybe they are dropping one of the iBook sizes (Hope it would be the 14 incher)

Personally whatever it is I cannot wait (ah, the life of a Mac fan )

im hoping it will be a brushed platinum (haha) wristwatch, with irridescent bezels of course, which will not only allow wearers to remotely access their macs, but can also be used to detonate small explosive devices in fictitious countries, like Framistan.

p.s. i dont trust Scully myself...
