I really don't see the point of a 13" MBA and a 13" MBP. The upper MBA model (1.3GHz i5, 4GB memory, 256GB SSD) is priced the same as the lowest 13" MBP (2.4GHz i5, 4GB memory, 256GB SSD, Retina). The MBA is 8 ounces lighter, but is actually a lousy deal as compared to the MBP. The 11.6" MBA might still make sense if they can price them even lower than the $1199 and $999 base models. Get them down to $999 and $799 and it could open up a new customer base for Apple. Of course, they probably couldn't be Retina at that price.
I have the same opinion. The overlap at the bottom is puzzling, but it might be a temporary situation. Apple is not afraid to cannibalize its own products, so I would not put it beneath them. However, that's not proof. I don't know if I believe this rumor. I give it a 50-50 chance of being true.
"It should be noted that the publication is notorious for being the source of numerous Apple-related rumors, many of which turn out to be incorrect."
That is all I need to see. This is likely totally wrong as most DigiTimes things are. They are unlikely to put Retina in the Air. More likely they won't and the Air will become the new MacBook and the Pro will eventually be just the Retina models.
I do wish Apple could spread out the product announcements like they used to. Not necessarily in time for big meetings but when the product is ready. Releasing all the new products in the fall puts a lot of pressure on ramping up production and the announcements throughout the year keep Apple in the media eye for good reasons.
Guess it never occurred to you that they are releasing in the Fall because that is when the product is ready. They don't control the time tables at all the suppliers, they have to work around that.
If you're doing things on an A8 processor you might as well be using iOS. I'm not saying that the A8 isn't capable, but if you're depending on using something with an A8 or A7 processor in it, you might as well just be using an iPad. There really isn't much the MBA can do that an iPad Retina can't. These 2 will not be merged, one will simply go away as its no longer needed and the MBA should be the first to go, replaced by the 12" MBP Retina and iPad Retina.
Actually one of the staff at an Apple store point out the difference to me. Either that 7 ppi difference is critical or the screen quality itself is different, because I looked and he was right. I could see the pixels on the 11" but not the 13". I hate seeing pixels.

Honestly the base model 13" Air is a great machine. And yes, so the RAM is soldered on, it's annoying, but if you need the extra 4 GBs of RAM it's no longer a total ripoff to get the Apple upgrade at checkout. It's $100.
Keep in mind that I bought my Mac mini when RAM prices were down a bit. I got 16 Gig for it for under a $100. It ticks me off to find that Apple wants that much to merely add 4 Gig to a MBA. That's a 400% tax.
And yes, all the Mac laptops are nice machines. My point was that none quite work for me. One big gotcha is that heavy tax to improve a model versus the next model up: the 11" MBA v. 13" MBA v. 13" MBP v. 13" MBPwR. I find a model I like, but to configure it like I want I end up looking at a price that means I need to consider the next-up model. The result isn't that I buy-up as Apple marketing may intend. No, the result is that no model becomes a clear winner. The attractions of each smear into those of the next, creating a mental muddle.
Lol I've been trying to hold out cause my MBP is in good shape, but I've been wanting an air... But If they release a MBA with retina... Shut up and take my money !!
I was thinking the same. Here is a signed check, fill it in after I leave with my box of wonderful.
The 13 inch MBA already comes with an impressive 900 by 1440 display. The same resolution as the 17 inch iMac g3 with the swivel neck. So a retina display on a 12 inch(rumored) or the 13 inch MBA would be the holy grail of laptops. All hell would break the f*** out!
I bought the 2013 haswell because I don't think that they can make a MacBook Air with retina display without sacrificing significant battery life.
Apparently you haven't keep up with what Sharp was doing with IGZO. The only thing that would keep retina out of an Air would be cost right now. Even better is if the screen is combined with a Broadwell processor, they system could gain all around.
If you're doing things on an A8 processor you might as well be using iOS.
Why would you say that. Arm is a perfectly good applications processor for the needs of many. Not perfect mind you but no processor is.
I'm not saying that the A8 isn't capable, but if you're depending on using something with an A8 or A7 processor in it, you might as well just be using an iPad.
Except if the software you are using needs a keyboard, mouse or interfacing to hardware.
There really isn't much the MBA can do that an iPad Retina can't. These 2 will not be merged, one will simply go away as its no longer needed and the MBA should be the first to go, replaced by the 12" MBP Retina and iPad Retina.

How to prove a rumor: shovel more DigiTimes horseshit to the manure pile = proof!

That's so not-Apple, it's not even funny.

Sorry, omitted to add "...running OS X."

Well maybe the rumoured larger ipad and the rumoured 12 ins MacBook Air are actually the same product. No-one will know until Apple wants to tell us!
That is what I was thinking... You can see how supply chain resources would think 12" iPad if they were seeing 12" retina displays and touch panels.
If Apple is marrying the iPad and MacBook together, I want the LTE model.
I have two bytes for you: A 8
Three words for you: full of crap.
Was it just my wallet that screamed in fear or did everybody's do the same thing?
I wish the Air met my performance needs. Sad to say it does not.
What I need right now is the Mac mini to see an update.

And is the Haswell MacMini coming soon, too??? *sigh*
