How do I see how many gigaflops my G4 does? What is the software I need to do this? Any help will be much appreciated.

    I'd be interested in the gigafloppage of my imac 500 as well. Probably not as good.

    Run RC5! We spank Wintels.

    Try <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=10540&db=mac"; target="_blank">Altivec Fractal Carbon</a>.

    That's really impressive stuff. This just convinced me to go for the TiBook instead of the iBook when I get my laptop this spring

    Gimme some other sorta benchmark. The last one WAS titled AltiVec Fractal Carbon after all. It was designed to mkae best use of Altivec.

    Like, comparing Norton Utilities' Benchmarking tool. That could be interesting. Anybody with a G4 wanna run it? Let's compare. I'll run it and return the stats tomorrow. I'm going to bed.

    benchmarks == statistics, IMO <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    That said, I usually get just between 3.5 and 3.6 GigaFlops on my dual 500 G4.

    My old 250MHz 604ev gets a killer 176 MegaFlops! :cool:

    But what's this NU benchmarker? I can't find it on Symantec's web site... is this free or a part of NU or NSW?

    Must I repeat myself?

    Where can one go about getting this benchmarking tool? Is it included in NU 6.0 or what? I'll acquire a copy if it is... though, it would be rather pointless since since most of Symantec's apps are old OS9 crap.

    haha, didn't know I was the only one that could answer your question

    It is included with NU, called System Info. Yes, it is 9 crap - which I still run because X is too slow and classic sucks.

    Sorry soryy sorry.

    On the OS 9 version of Norton Utilities, there is a wonderful little benchmarking utility.

    I dunno whether there is one on Norton Utilities for X.

    Updating the drivers has produced 112 megaflops on the 6100 with g3 upgrade card, still not spectacular but better,

    Heh, thanks guys, but I don't plan on rebooting into that monstrosity called "O S NINE" any time soon.

    Here's another benchmarking app (for 3D stuff) called Cinebench 2000:

    <a href="http://www.maxon.de/pub/benchmarks/cinebench_mac.sit"; target="_blank">http://www.maxon.de/pub/benchmarks/cinebench_mac.sit</a>;

    I just wish Maxon would carbonize Cinebench cince uses the exact same engine as Cinema 4D which has been carbonized for a long time (a GREAT app, by the way).
