Do you have something in mind? Other than something lik iPhoto that just simplifies digital photgraphy wouldn't anything earth-shattering. Would it?
Maybe some sort of speech thing, like the one being discussed in a FH thread?
Scotty was always talking to the computer and this tagline is a direct "Star Trek" lift. Makes you wonder. An amusing coincidence if nothing else.
Man, with each passing day Apple is raising that bar a bit higher and painting themselves back into a corner.
They are leaving themselves no wiggle room at all. Thing is, does all this hype apply to the whole keynote (and several products, both hardware and software) in general, OR is it all about a single, particular product?
Every tagline from the past four days could be taken either way.
Its easy to assume that all this is pointing towards G5's, G4-based LCD iMacs, a new iApp, etc.
I keep wavering back and forth between getting REALLY excited and expecting something like a G4 iMac (wow!) with all the trimmings, to reminding myself of previous letdowns and the idea that what Jobs and Apple consider revolutionary, "mind-blowing", "beyond the rumor sites", etc. is not what the majority of us are clamoring for.
For everything thought I have of Jobs unveiling a glossy white G4 iMac, another one finds its way into my head of the desktops getting 100MHz speed bumps and then Steve spending the remaining 90 minutes unveiling, demoing and gushing over some freaky, limited-appeal, overpriced gizmo that nobody asked for.
Surely after MWNY in July, lessons were learned. And perhaps they've gotten things on the chip side whipped into shape and this is indeed the Macworld to end all Macworlds?
Imagine eating lunch Monday (after the keynote is over) with heart-racing images and thoughts of 1GHz-plus G5s and smoking little G4 iMacs that house today's fastest G4 (867MHz) in a cute little all-in-one body? It would be enough to make me forget to chew my sandwich.
OS X on Intel is the first thing that pops to mind.

WHY??? Where are you getting that? That's probably the LAST thing I'd think of. Please explain.
EDIT: I don't get the voice recognition thing, either.

A long time ago (mid 90's), Apple had a "Star Trek" project to put the MacOS (Copland?) on intel processors. It died on the vine.....or did it?
Hardware or Software? When someone talks about a PC, I automatically think of hardware. As Enigma has states above, a lot of us will think of Macs surpassing the PC's at 2.4 Ghz right away; that is exactly what I thought, but when you think of it, Steve loves to put on a show and the above quote kind of spills the beans if Apple is going to be releasing a 2.4 Ghz Power PC G4 or G5. Steve's fun would be kind of ruined, but if he stands up there on Monday and announces that Apple has not only "closed the mhz gap, but has surpassed the P4" Apple will be getting myself and several several and several others credit card numbers come Monday.
zI hope that is not hat it is...as has een stated it would be suicide for Apple's hardware division. Sure I love the styling of Apple's products, but I use them because I hate using windows...if I could run OSX on a cheaper machine with better specs...I would probably buy it.

But the second thing that pops to mind is SERIOUSLY portable.
The third thing is that it's so small you can put it anywhere.
I'm betting that this is an indication of the size of the new iMac: REALLY SMALL.
Well, those are my guesses.

1) "Oh, no. Everybody's going to start saying 'Wow, the G5's are going to go past PC's in Ghz! Wooohooo!"
2) They forgot "boldly" if they were trying to mimic Star Trek. Maybe that's too close to Paramount's trademarks for the brand, though.

My thoughts exactly.
Anyone else remember the old 'star trek' project?
Of course, it could be a reference to a new spoke in the digital hub...
I have never speculated about future hardware/software, but I guess I gotta start somewhere:
teleconferencing software/hardware?
LCARS-like "Finder" implementation?
a .net strategy??
PADD-like PDA?
As my favorite Vulcan would say... [quote]Fascinating

Maybe they'll give the SpyMac guys and their iWalk complimentary seats on the next Voyager probe.
I've got a 'probe' for the guys at spymac......
