I think schools will snap up the new iMacs. I don't think Apple is that dumb not to beat the shit out of them to understand their tolerances, and improve on any possible weaknesses or flaws. This won't be any different than the CRT iMac. Can't wait until my school buys some!

Have a closer look <a href="http://apple.com/imac/specs.html"; target="_blank">here</a>. All the way on the left of the ports, there is a hole for a lock.

But still, that blows. Glad I don't live in NYC.</strong><hr></blockquote>

you think that lock would work? lol. Schools here have iMacs in steel cases that wrap around them. a little kensington lock is a joke.

It wouldn't last, it's way too much money for their budget, and there is no apparant way to lock it down without drilling holes.

At least they kept the CRT imacs</strong><hr></blockquote>

You sure are right. In my junior high in 7th grade they got iMacs (the original Blueberry 350MHz slot loaders) and the kids did so much shit to them. It was horrible. I remember kids throwing the balls from the Pucks around the room, banging on the iMac all the time, trying to take keys off the keyboard, etc.

No matter what, I stll think $1800 is ridiculous for a consumer PC. No matter how cool. I wonder what kind of discounts schools could get on them? I'd say $1499 justifies the high-end. I know, I know. It has a DVD burner and a G4, but Apple's profit margins are so high, probably even higher now. They could EASILY offer one with those specs if not better for $1499.

"For the same cost as the original iMac four years ago, the new iMac provides a host of breakthroughs, including a stunning 15? flat-panel display, blazing-fast G4 processor, the remarkable Mac OS X operating system, and a number of preinstalled software applications."

    \t-from Apple's iMac page

How come all of a sudden it's not ok to have a whole new machine introduced at the same price that the original whole new machine was introduced in 98? if you'll remember, it took Apple a couple years to get the iMac's price down to $799.
