Earning money from my Mac

Hi,

I would dearly love to buy a new iMac - hell even some extra spending money would be nice, but how? I am a student, so have a fair amount of time on my hands, and have not found out about any decent jobs around here. - unless you count KFC! So, I've got to thinking - surely my Mac can help. I know that I don't have any real formal training, but surely there is something I can do on my mac that will earn me some money? It could even be for someone the other side of the world!

Please, also don't tell me about any get rich quick schemes, or about making my own site - it would make money, but only if I pulled a Spymac-like fast-one.

Please help me!

Thanks,

Dave

It's real simple. There are great Apple laptop deals out there on the internet. I have bought and immediately sold 3 for a total profit of $900

It might help you americans but is no good for europeans. If I lived in US I would be rich just by buying cheap travelstar hard disks and selling them on eBay. Its incredible how much you can make by being a little more Homo Economicus than others.

For starters, see if you can hook up with some bands and do some flyers or CD covers or something for them. It's fun, fairly easy (if you're the creative type) and you can make a few bucks if you're good at it.

Once you make a little money from that, maybe you could buy a video camera and make even shoot a video or two for them, on the cheap.

Just some ideas, I don't know what you're good at.

Any reasonable, surefire ideas? I'm not expecting to win the lottery, just to make a thousand dollars worth or so over a _very_ long time - six months or more, not overnight.

    Thanks,

    Dave

You could start a Hotline or Carracho server with a number of lucrative banner schemes.

You could convert people's old home movies to DVD. There's a box you can buy so you can import the video from VHS to your new iMac through firewire. Then import it into iDVD, build some nice menus and burn it.

I think there'd be a good market for that with Wedding videos. Think of all those old VHS tapes that won't be playable in a few years.

There are services that do that now, but they charge at least $150 for just 2 hours of video. You could charge $75 for 2 hours.

I saw 3 great ideas already. Whats wrong with them?

    Making flyers

Writing software, or a shareware utility

    Making DVDs

What do you expect to make money for nothing?

Three very good ideas, and lets not forget the KFC idea. A surefire way to earn money the good old fashioned way. How bad do you want that iMac son?

    Hi.

Please don't think that they are bad ideas, its just that, well, shareware apps don't get you any money unless they are very good- It would take ages and ages, and need a great deal of luck and inspiration.

The DVD idea is also very good, one I have thought of in the past, but alas, I would need that new Superdrive iMac to do it!

As for the fliers, that is the most sensible idea, but I don not know a company that needs them, and if you have read my other current thread in this forum, you will know that I would make a loss on the ink.

Please keep thinking - I really do appreciate it

    Thanks,

    Dave

You don't print the flyers yourself.

You take them to a copier place and get them made as part of your "service".

You're in the UK so I'm not sure how the money thing works out, but lets say it costs you 100 pounds/dollars whatever to get 5000 flyers made, you charge 150.

Plus, you've already charged about 25/50/75 an hr (depending on you skills and what you can work out). So, lets say you whip something up in about four hours and charge 50/hr. That's $200 plus the extra 50 for getting the things printed, that's 250 for a days work.

Try placing a cheap ad in a newspaper, see what that gets you. What's it cost to place an ad for a month? 7$ $15?

It doesn't have to be just flyers either. You could design t-shirts and do the same thing. Mark that stuff up!

Does anyone know if Apple do any Student Brand Manager or Campus representative jobs here in the UK?

Here's what I did while I was in school and made a good amount of money doing it:

    1. Post flyers around school offering you personalized greeting card service to someone special on-campus.

    2. Charge 4-5 quid a card and hand-deliver to the recipient(s) once or twice a day.

    Cost of materials:

HP Greeting Card Stock (100pcs) about 35.00

Ink, etc (enough for 100pcs): 20.00

    Potential Gross Revenue (5.00x100): 500.00

    Net Profit: 445.00

    Valentine's day is coming soon!!!
