Ok, I thought you were going for the top end iMac.

What about Web Design/Development? If you don't know any programming languages you could learn them, or learn to do Web Graphics.

What about this....learn either PHP or JSP. Apache is free, the JSP/PHP/CGI modules that you need for Apache are all free also. So you could run a test web server right on your iMac and write your own web applications, all for the cost of the iMac!

I've got an excellant book on JSP called "Core JSP". IT even comes with the modules and sample code.

There's always lots of companies who need web apps and you will be developing an invaluable skill for your future.

Look for local businesses in your area and tell them you can build them an online store. You can use mySQL as the backend database (free), JSP for the coding logic (free) and Photoshop Elements (relatively cheap) to build the front graphics for the site. Write all the html and jsp code in a text editor (free of course).

Hell, if they made "The Gimp" for OS X you could make all the graphics for free too. (The Gimp is a unix graphics app that is free).

    Hows that sound?

Actually, I use The Gimp in OS X all the time. So that one is covered as well... A little program called FINK installed everything I need to run it rootless inside of X Windows on OS X. Very cool actually, and took no brainpower to install... Best of all, FREE FREE FREE...

Whoa! The Gimp runs in X?! Woohoo. Do you have a link to FINK? Hah, I'm a poet and didn't even know it.

    <a href="http://fink.sourceforge.net/"; target="_blank">http://fink.sourceforge.net/</a>; is a good place to start.

If you have problems they have lots of FAQ's and I may be able to help you. But as I said, took no effort and worked on the first try...

the way I used to make money as a student (and a few times recently too actually) is be a Mac 'consultant/tech' guy. IF you know what you are doing and have done so many installations, troubleshoot, some networking Mac skills...

I made money by either knowing people that had Macs and I would go tune them up or install things for them or what not. I recently got a job at a friend's company that had 4 iMacs that had to be totally reinstalled... iMac 333Mhz that still had original MacOS 8.5 on them.. never updated in 3 years! And never had a hitch... almost. Anyway, I charged 25$ an hour and I gotta say I made quite a nice sum after 4 days.

What if you dont know anyone? Well, you can always try small classified ads, online classifieds, post up flyers, etc. If you get to know someone well enough at a Mac based store, they could possibly hook you up with some contacts. Maybe even leave a little 'wanted' flyer in a few Mac stores.

place your mac on the window sill.

begin furiously typing a web manuscript on it with pictures and graphics and little sound bites about a controversial subject [pick one it doesn't really matter which one].

at the height of your furious pounding on the keyboard - instruct your best friend to walk by underneath the window.

allow your mac to vibrate so furiously that it falls out the window and onto your friends head.

have your friend submit an insurance claim for his concussion and split the money with him.

........or if you have a scanner you can charge people 35$ a pop for creating virtual photo albums for them. no ink costs.

parlay the photo album jobs into html jobs and you have a little biz plan rolling.

Yeah, there's money in that. I'm doing a site now for <a href="http://www.cjk.co.uk"; target="_blank">www.cjk.co.uk</a> (that's the old version, not mine), and will probably quote him between £500 and 1000. Make sure to learn more than HTML though. PHP's good.
